Dopo quattro anni di assenza dalle scene discografiche (ma non dai dancefloor, dove continua a mietere un successo dietro l’altro) torna Paul Oakenfold, con l’album ‘’A Lively Mind’’. A differenza del precedente ‘‘Bunkka’’ (2002) che aveva ben più di un difetto e che peccava di prolissità, ‘‘A Lively Mind’’ si presenta come un disco prettamente trance, con molte influenze rock e poche sperimentazioni elettroniche oltre che caratterizzato da un sound molto ‘‘trendy’’ e in linea coi tempi.
Dall’iniziale ‘‘Faster Kill Pussycat’’ (con alla voce l’attrice Brittany Murphy), a ‘‘Sex ‘n’ Money’’ (con l’onnipresente Pharrell Williams), passando per la trance pura di "Amsterdam’’ e ''Not Over’’ fino alle folgoranti ‘‘Switch On’’ e ‘‘Set It Off’’ (quest’ ultima con la collaborazione di Grandmaster Flash, famosissimo rapper anni ’80 autore dell’indimenticabile ‘‘The Message’’), si deduce che Paul non solo è un grande conoscitore della scena dance/elettronica ma è anche un ragazzo dalle indiscutibili capacità compositive, che ha tirato fuori dal cilindro un album capace di piacere non solo ai fanatici del dancefloor, ma anche agli appassionati ascoltatori di musica (non solo elettronica).
La cosa che colpisce di piu’ di questo disco è proprio di come abbia un sound commerciale e ‘da classifica’ e al tempo stesso uno originale e mai fine a se stesso con pezzi non fatti solamente ‘per ballare’ ma anche da ascoltare con piacere, curati fin nei minimi dettagli e capaci di restare nella mente per molto tempo.
Consigliato senza dubbio a tutti gli appassionati di musica elettronica e dance. Per quelli che invece non lo sono, a meno che non odiate il genere, date una possibilità a Mr. Oakenfold: ne vale la pena.
