L'importante è crederci.
Sono tanti gli esempi di emulazione nel mondo della musica,tra i più tristemente conosciuti, almeno nel bel paese, ricordiamo Little Tony/Elvis Presley, per non parlare dei numerosi gruppi alla smaniosa ricerca di popolarità attraverso il tentativo di ricordare almeno vagamente delle band simbolo come Beatles, Pink Floyd ecc.
Anche nel caso dei Puddle Of Mudd potremmo dire la stessa cosa, salvo però constatare che il risultato non è poi così male, anzi è ben accetto. E' vero, la prima cosa che si nota guardando un live o un videoclip della band di Kansas City è come il leader Wes Scantlin voglia forzatamente ricordare un certo sig. Kurt Cobain;c on le dovute proporzioni il flashback funziona discretamente.
"Come Clean" è il secondo CD della band, in copertina un simpatico bimbo che urina vicino a dei cespugli, ma non preoccupatevi, non è lo stesso della copertina di "Nevermind" magari un pò cresciuto e che magari si pulisce le mani di pipì col dollaro. Dietro le quinte c'è Fred Durst, scopritore della band nonchè punto di riferimento insieme a Rick Rubin per le band che vogliono avere una bella produzione e un pò di soldi in tasca. Dopo il singolone d'apertura "Control", la strada verso il cd grunge del decennio sembra spianata (non è che ci sia stata poi tanta concorrenza, ad esempio dei mostri sacri del grunge come i Pearl Jam da li a qualche mese pubblicheranno il tristissimo "Riot Act"), ma bisogna camminare con i piedi per terra.
"Drift & Die" ricorda molto, troppo lo stile "Cobainiano" mentre molto più alternative risultano la ottima "Out Of My Head", forse il miglior pezzo dell'album e "Nobody Told Me". C'è chi ha storto il naso vedendo i video di "Blurry" e "She ... Hates Me" su mtv, in effetti quest'ultima di grunge ha ben poco, ma in fondo è stato il singolo per il lancio in europeo, simpatico il testo, purtroppo censurato a lungo nel vecchio continente solo per qualche termine esplicito dedicato da Scantlin a l'ex compagna. Da notare come la mano "elettronica" di Fred Durst sia presente nelle basi di 8 pezzi su 11, in particolar modo in "Control" e "Basement". Ciò che non convince dell'album è che alcuni pezzi quali "Said" e "Nobody Told Me" erano già presenti nel precedente album della band, "Abrasive", e che in qualche modo sono stati rimodellati per una perfetta incanalatura nel cd.
Suono robusto, voce e riff graffianti, basi melodiche ma mai simili tra loro; è vero i Nirvana sono ancora lontani, ma l'importante è crederci.

Senza dubbio "Control" è un'ottima song, piena di energia, chitarre scontrose e impetuose e un ritornello entusiasmante, ma ho capito che è il solito bel singolo che anticipa un album di merda.
Wesley Reid Scantin non solo assomiglia ma canta pure come K.Cobain, imitandolo davvero spudoratamente, cazzo, i Puddle of Mudd sono un'offesa su tutti i fronti e la Interscope si dovrebbe vergognare.
