Che delusione.
Non ho ancora finito di ascoltare tutto il cd appena consegnatomi dalla posta (ordinato in America visto che qui ancora non si trova) e già mi girano le palle. Ero talmente affascinato dal singolo "Control" che gira su MTV da qualche settimana, che non ci ho voluto pensare su due volte ad acquistare online "come clean" al costo di 15 $, con carta di credito: ho pensato, "figo, costa poco ed è sicuramente una chicca visto che Interscope Records è una Label indie, non me ne pentirò, e inoltre sono tra i primi ad ascoltarlo in Europa".
Ora invece penso che non lo farò mai più.
Eppure già nel video dopo la seconda o terza visione il bassista mi ha fatto sorgere qualche dubbio, con quella bandana e i jeans di moda sembrava uno fuori luogo, uno degli n-sync o backstreet boys finito nei Puddle of Mudd grazie ad una selezione/produzione televisiva alla No-Angels, Brosis oppure O-Town. Ma ho diffidato dai pregiudizi, alienato dal ritmo di "Control", e ora mi rendo conto di aver sbagliato ancora.
Senza dubbio "Control" è un'ottima song, piena di energia, chitarre scontrose e impetuose e un ritornello entusiasmante, ma ho capito che è il solito bel singolo che anticipa un album di merda: i restanti 10 pezzi sono infatti noiosissimi, tutti uguali, senza carattere e di quel genere hardrock post-grunge che a nessuno piace (forse solo ai Nickelback e Creed).
La batteria viaggia a ritmi amatoriali (tipo serate di liscio in Romagna) da drumcomputer, il basso non esiste e le chitarre sono lontanissime da "control", per niente creative.
Qualche spunto ricorda gli Alice in Chains oppure Stone Temple Pilots, ma nel complesso il concetto non rende!
E non è finita qui: Wesley Reid Scantin non solo assomiglia ma canta pure come K.Cobain, imitandolo davvero spudoratamente, cazzo, i Puddle of Mudd sono un'offesa su tutti i fronti e la Interscope si dovrebbe vergognare.
Infine anche la copertina in bianconero è roba già vista: bimbo che fa la pipì su un cespuglio.
Se proprio avete soldi da buttare comprate al massimo il singolo di "Control", ma giù le mani dall'album. Se "Come Clean" fosse stato un film sarebbe la classica pessima produzione hollywoodiana che dalle ns. parti si chiama "americanata". Che fastidio, 15 $.
