Roisin Murphy è una delle artiste più valide della scena elettronica/pop di questi ultimi decenni. Donna molto bella e affascinante associa ad un aspetto da snob algida, una voce profonda e calda. Debutta come altra metà del duo Moloko, che spopolò tra la fine degli anni 90 e l'inizio del nuovo millennio (come non ricordare "Sing It Back" e "Forever More") e nel 2005 inizia la sua carriera solista con l'album "Ruby Blue". Il grande sucesso giunge nel 2007 con la pubblicazione del suo secondo album solista "Overpowered", vero gioiellino di pop elettronico in cui si mescolano tendenze dance e suol.
Il lavoro si apre con il primo singolo che dà il nome all'album, caratterizzato da un incedere cadenzato e da un ritmo scandito da profondi beat elettronici che danno vita ad una cavalcata dance sulla quale si adagia la sua voce a tratti cristallina a tratti più oscura. "Let me Know", secondo singolo, è un insieme di sonorità quasi funky, mescolate alla dance anni novanta e con una particolare attitudine "trash" (ma in senso positivo); elemento che caratterizza molte tracce dell'album (una su tutte "You Know Me Better"). Come non citare il tripudio di sintetizzatori di "Movie Star" o la dancereccia e pompatissima "Cry Baby". Ma tra tutte queste tracce espressamente pop si nascondo anche pezzi più raffinati, in cui l'elettroncia è piegata ai ritmi del suol, e in alcuni casi del jazz. "Primitive" è oscura e ammaliante, con la voce della nostra che si fa profonda e sensuale; "Dear Miami", pezzo stranamente malinconico , in cui i beat spezzati fanno da tappeto a uno dei momenti più alti vocalmente del disco e "Checkin' On Me" ritmato e "nero" quanto basta.
Un album complesso, in cui la voce di Roisin Murphy dissolve i limiti che distinguono i diversi generi, e tutto si mescola e si confonde, in un raffinato e colto "pastiche" che mostra il grande talento di questa donna.
Ps: consilgiato anche l'ascolto delle B-side "Sunshine" e "Pandora".

Overpowered è un gran bel sentire che meriterebbe di fare sfracelli nelle classifiche europee e non solo.
