I Taking Back Sunday se non altro sono sicuramente simpatici. Uno dei pochi gruppi che (volente o nolente) appartiene alla scena "emo" i cui membri non stanno tutto il tempo a tirarsela o a fare finta di avere il cuore spezzato e altre amenità simili. Un gruppo serio.
"Louder Now" è il loro terzo full-lenght, e si può dire con tranquillità che l'"emo" dell'esordio è definitivamente sepolto (si può appratenere alla scena emo non suonando emo? La risposta per quanto strana è "sì") in favore di sonorità prettamente rock. Magari radiofonico, ma sempre rock rimane.
Riff solidi, batteria che pesta, ritmi trascinanti che ti fanno andare a tempo con le fette abbinati a tanta, tanta melodia. Si potrebbe dire che di melodia c'è n'è anche un pochino troppa e che forse un "Louder Now" un po' più grezzo sarebbe stato anche meglio, però in fondo va bene così. E poi ci sono i ritornelli. Cazzo, di ritornelli in questo disco ce n'è abbastanza da farci campare un qualsiasi gruppetto per almeno 4-5 album. Tutti dannatamente orecchiabili: per non unirsi al buon Lazzara nel canto bisogna proprio impegnarsi.
Forse i fan più accaniti (ma esisteranno?) delle sonorità edulcorate del primo disco storceranno il naso di fronte alla sterzata dei TBS, io personalmente ne sono rimasto più che contento con tutto che reputo il primo disco un gioiello, e per quanto ho potuto constatare mi sembra che "Louder Now" abbia riscosso notevole consenso presso il fanbase del gruppo. E le poche tracce non proprio indimenticabili vengono bilanciate da un tasso favorevole di colpi messi a segno come la tirata "Spin", o il trio iniziale "What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost?", "Liar" e "MakeDamnSure", nonchè "Error:Operator" nella quale il duetto tra Lazzara e Fred Mascherino porta forse il disco al suo apice, riportando alla mente i tempi del buon Chris Nolan...
Probabilmente per la sua "leggerezza" non catturerà le simpatie di molti DeBaseriani, comunque a quelli meno elitisti disposti a provare qualcosa di nuovo che non sia impegnativo mi sento di consigliarlo.
