Volete un’idea precisa, veloce e chiara di cosa siano capaci di fare questi The Crown? Skippate le tracce di questo Deathrace King fino alla 10, alzate il volume del vostro stereo al massimo e preparatevi perché nei prossimi quattro minuti scarsi il vostro cervello e le vostre orecchie saranno sottoposti alla tortura inflitta loro dall’assalto death/thrash di questi cinque svedesi.
Questa che avete appena ascoltato era Total Satan (dove tra l’altro c’è un’apparizione di Mika Luttinen degli Impaled Nazarene) ma il risultato sarebbe stato lo stesso se aveste scelto come boia Deathexplosion o I Won’t Follow o qualunque altra canzone dell’album. I The Crown sono attivi sin dal 1990 (e proprio in questi giorni è in uscita Possessed 13, che celebra i 13 anni di puro massacro di questi death/thrasher) e sotto il nome di Crown of Thorns registrarono un paio di album, ma il progressivo emergere dall’underground arriva col cambio di nome e l’album Hell is Here. Dopodiché abbiamo questo Deathrace King che…beh senza tanti giri di parole spacca davvero il culo. I nostri propongono una miscela letale di Thrash e Death metal svedese, per cui smussato dalle melodie tipiche dei gruppi di Gothenburg e dintorni (At The Gates su tutti) come possiamo sentire molto bene nel riff granitico di I Won’t Follow ma, e qui sta la peculiarità di questo gruppone, aggiungendovi una spietatissima attitudine punk/rock’n’roll lievemente à la Motorhead.
Non sarebbe quindi fuori luogo un paragone con i Carpathian Forest che fanno la stessa cosa su una base di gelido black metal norvegese. La tecnica dimostrata da ogni singolo componente lascia a bocca aperta, soprattutto le pirotecniche evoluzioni del duo Tervonen-Sunesson che con le loro sei-corde ci sanno fare…e non poco. Ottimo il growl/screaming di Johan Lindstrand e notevole il lavoro del bassista Magnus Olsfelt soprattutto in fase di songwriting. Manca solo da menzionare l’impalcatura su cui si regge la devastante macchina da guerra svedese…Janne Saarenpää (1,93 per 84kg). Si sente parlare tanto spesso di tali Gene Hoglan, Hellhammer, Nick Barker e compagnia bella, vi assicuro che dopo avere ascoltato il lavoro di questa sorta di drum machine umana vi verrà qualche dubbio sull’effettiva grandezza dei suoi ben più famosi colleghi.
Per chi cerca un cd che tenga compagnia nei lunghi pomeriggi invernali e dia un bel calcio nel culo quando se ne ha bisogno.
