Galeotta fu quella sera che, distrattamente, ascoltai un video dei Mooney Suzuki su Brand:New. Da quel dì ho deciso : "Sì, di questi qualcosa-Suzuki devo trovare almeno un disco!". E diciamocela tutta, ne ho trovato anche più di uno. Formatisi all'inizio degli anni '90 nella Grande Mela, sono diventate una delle realtà più interessanti della scena garage-blues contemporanea, grazie a quel mix di MC5-Led Zeppelin-Rolling Stones che non può che far piacere ascoltare in questo periodo.
Il disco parte come un pugno in pieno stomaco, con la title-track "Electric Sweat". Durante la riproduzione di questo brano viene quasi impossibile stare fermi. Sembra di ascoltare un pò i Datsuns un pò i Led Zeppelin, i primi soprattutto nella parte vocale, i secondi nell'impianto strumentale. Purissimo e sano rock'n'roll come non si sentiva forse dai tempi del debutto dei BRMC e degli Strokes. "Oh Sweet Susanna" strizza leggermente l'occhiolino ai Soundtrack Of Our Lives. Cori e batteria sono infatti tipici della band svedese capitanata da Ebbot Lundberg. Il disco non ha mai cali di ritmo, eccezion fatta per il penultimo brano "The Broken Heart", ballata in pieno stile '60s. L'impronta rock'n'roll della band newyorchese si continua a sentire per tutti i trentacinque minuti del disco, passando per episodi quali "It's not easy", "Natural Facts" e "I woke up this mornin'" (che suona tantissimo come una cover riarrangiata di "Jumpin' Jack Flash" dei Rolling Stones, tanta è la somiglianza negli accordi). Il brano che chiude il disco, "Electrocuted Blues", è un blues strumentale di circa tre minuti, con virtuosismi chitarristici notevoli e ritmo piuttosto sostenuto. Alla fine è quasi automatica l'esclamazione : "Cavolo, già è finito! Peccato...quasi quasi lo rimetto dall'inizio...".
Nulla di nuovo nel sound di questo disco, ma il tutto è confezionato ed amalgamato talmente bene che è notevolmente al di sopra del valore medio di tutta questa ondata-indierock-clone che sinceramente ci ha stancato un pò. Album, sound e band : in "Electric Sweat" tutto suona e risulta molto valido. Vedremo in futuro quanto avranno da dire e soprattutto se non finiranno nel dimenticatoio come è successo a molti. La speranza è l'ultima a morire, vedremo se avrà la meglio.
