Chuck D sui Perceptionists: "Lif è Coltrane, Ak Miles Davis e Fakts One yo è Art Blakey - la magia che successe a NYC 50 anni fa, la stanno ripetendo proprio adesso."
Peccato che questo trio sia di Boston; Chuck D che definì Eminem l'Elvis del Rap senza scomporsi da ad Akrobatik del Miles Davis. Un Mc paragonato ad uno dei Jazzisti più introversi è un accostamento svarionato dettato, secondo me, dalla continua ricerca di un successore che sappia ricreare un sound coscenzioso che sproni i poveri a risalire e i ricchi a comprendere.
La chimica dei Perceptionists risiede nel fare del rap militant un avant-rap, trasformare quello che i loro predecessori, tutti debitamente tributati con svariate citazioni, fecero in maniera semplice e grezza, in un sound raffinato puramente hip-hop. Ak e Lif e dj Fakts One prima di incidere assieme hanno sempre collaborato nelle loro canzoni rap fin quando, dopo le prime uscite da solisti, creano spontaneamente "Black Dialogue" trattando principalmente di politica anti-bush. La fusione tra i due Mc è totale specialmente in "Blò" con un campione di Krs-One che rende la canzone più ricercata con loro che si passano le strofe con discontinuità, sentirli alternarsi al microfono con quelle metriche ti rigenera i parametri rap; non come in "Memorial Day" che chiedono spazio uno alla volta per esporre i motivi del fallimento della guerra in Iraq con Ak che prevale nominando i ministri del governo nuovi generali dell'esercito.
"Love Letter" spezza la rabbia, le urla di protesta si trasformano in un cantato dolce con una base lirica di una donna che respira, atmosfera piena per dedicarla a una dea platonica. Il Rap classico si affaccia in "Black Dialogue"; un testamento rap per chi almeno una volta abbia imitato lo stile, la moda, o ne abbia criticato la storia della razza nera, ipocriti siete sempre i primi nel criticare. Continua a rendere un lavoro completamente da diffondere nel ghetto la "Frame Rupture" titolo che ricambia in parte il testo, composto da rime frastagliate, e la rumorosa batteria di "What Have We Got To Lose?!" dove si innalza un muro tra i sistemi politico-giuridici e le orde di giovani che non ne sentono il bisogno. 9 10 e 11 Feat. di Guru & Camutao; Shock G; e Phonte; la storia finisce con una ballata, "Breathe In The Sun", un omaggio di Lif alla musica inglese dei Coldplay e dei Radiohead.
Non hanno sbagliato, 'Black Dialogue', un cd storico, un nuovo manifesto generazionale riscritto da due pesi medi del rap, i pesi massimi sono da 15 anni campioni indiscussi.
