E eccoci a "Sirius B". La recensione di questo lavoro dovrebbe essere letta subito dopo "Lemuria", il primo album dei due, che ne costituisce, si può dire, la parte decadente e sinfonica all'ennessima potenza, mentre questo, rappresenta l'incarnazione più Heavy, e maggiormente potente, della mastodontica opera. Giudicate voi.
Anche se fosse preso singolarmente, "Sirius B" rappresenterebbe comunque un'opera eccelsa, ed in questa chiave io vorrei interpretarlo, come un tassello messo in un certo posto della carriera dei Therion, proprio perché doveva starci. Senza ombra di dubbio la classe esplosiva della band, quì si mette in mostra palesemente, e i suoni e le canzoni che questi compongono, sono strutturate nella classica maniera ariosa e sottile, ma estremamente potente, che sembra essere il marchio di fabbrica di casa Therion. E allora, perché non alzare il volume su "The Blood of Kingu", aggressiva e rocciosa, o su "Son of the Sun", ritmata potente e con il classico sentore di "strozza-stomaco"? Oppure, perché non lasciarsi ammaliare dai barocchismi gotici e fini di "Dark Venus Persephone", o di "The Wondrous World of Punt"?
Perché, vi chiedo, non si riesce a staccare l'orecchio da queste meraviglie che i Therion compongono? Perché non si riescono a dimenticarne i fraseggi e i passaggi, anche se questi sono intricati e non di certo di primo impatto? Troppe domande, per nessuna risposta, per un album incentrato tutto sull'atmosfera sulfurea, decadente, potente e straordinaria, in certi momenti dove, sembra quasi che cozzi con un certo Doom geometrico e progressivo che niente lascia al caso ma riesce a liberare e a librare in aria magnifici intenti di fantasia e passione per la musica. E dunque, certamente, vale lo stesso discorso fatto con "Lemuria". Ogni canzone ha in sé qualcosa di particolare, di delicato, di gotico, di misterioso da scoprire, cosa che, unito alla tecnicità mostruosa di questa band, non potrà che farvi rimanere stupefatti.
Pomposo? Forse. Ma di certo non mi vengono altre parole per esprimere ciò che percepisco di questo album, che ho sempre considerato tra i migliori, in tutti i sensi, per quanto riguarda la produzione dei Therion.
