Ok, di recensioni sul disastro "Scream" ce ne sono già, quindi essendo anch'io dello stesso parere, vorrei soffermarmi su altri particolari.
Come molti di voi sapranno, si vocifera su una probabile reunion dei Soundgarden (per ora si parla solo di raccolte di b-sides... ma in futuro...), quindi vorrei fare delle considerazioni al riguardo: avessi saputo questa notizia 2 anni fa, sarei stato felice, perchè con la fine del progetto Audioslave (per me un po' sottovalutato) avrei capito la paura di Chris Cornell di finire ingiustamente nell'anonimato, quindi una reunion con il suo gruppo storico avrebbe avuto comunque un senso, ma dopo "Scream" non posso più guardare Cornell, e quindi i "nuovi" Soundgarden, con gli stessi occhi.
Come fai a non pensare che questa sia solo l'ennesima trovata commerciale di Chris per rilanciarsi? Fallito (in parte) il progetto Audioslave, fallito il tentativo hip-pop (come ha potuto pensare che potesse funzionare?)... mancano solo i Soundgarden... Certo, si può provare, ma l'immagine di Cornell schiavetto di Timbaland che si comporta come uno dei Backstreet boys non verrà dimenticata così facilmente! Ormai la fiducia nei suoi confronti non c'è quasi più: certo, che volesse optare su sonorità più pop si sapeva già (l'esempio è il precedente album "Carry on"), ma con "Scream" ha esagerato... ha voltato le spalle ingiustamente ai milioni di sostenitori che nonostante tutto lo seguivano con grande interesse.
A questo punto la domanda che mi viene spontanea è: "Ma non si poteva evitare di tradire così i fans?" e la risposta è: "Assolutamente sì!"
Basta ascoltare le canzoni in versione live (quelle senza effetti da discoteca... ovviamente...) o acustiche: certo, non siamo davanti a nuove grandi "Black hole sun", è chiaro, però gli spunti buoni non mancavano. "Scream" in versione acustica per quanto scontata, è carina, come pure "Long gone" (almeno la versione lanciata come singolo è più "rock"... ...), "Never far away", e l'unica canzone che si è salvata dal lavoro hip pop "Two drink minimum". Quindi pensando che gli effetti sintetici non servissero a mascherare una mancanza d'ispirazione, credo che un album in stile "classico" non avrebbe fatto una bruttissima figura.
E non tengono le interviste rilasciate da Chris Cornell riguardo "Scream", in cui affermava di essere "soddisfatto per il lavoro svolto" e di "averlo fatto solo perché era quello che voleva". E' palese che non è così... io la sua voce così svogliata e così poco convinta non l'avevo mai sentita!
La conclusione è una: Chris Cornell si è venduto.
Io sarei anche disposto a perdonarlo, ma siamo sicuri che sia davvero pentito? Ma ancor di più, siamo sicuri che i Soundgarden non diventino un'ulteriore presa per il sedere nei nostri confronti?
