E venne il greatest hits di Elisa da Monfalcone. Dopo il fallito tentativo di conquista delle charts americane da parte di "Pearl Days" (prodotto e arrangiato da Glen Ballard, ex Alanis Morissette), la golden girl della scuderia Caselli torna con una raccolta dei suoi singoli di maggior successo. Una raccolta molto fortunata, se si considera che a sette mesi di distanza dalla data di pubblicazione ancora si trova nella top ten nazionale dei dischi più venduti.
Operazione di rilancio davanti alla quale molti hanno storto il naso perché troppo "sbandierata", tuttavia una raccolta delle canzoni più belle di Elisa (che ne ha fatte di belle canzoni) non può essere frettolosamente archiviata con le definizioni troppo scontate del caso; molti magari temono che l'artista fin qui musicalmente molto valida possa diventare una pseudo-starletta e cavalcare le mode del momento sull'onda di alcune (ex) illustri colleghe. Ma la ragazza in questione non è così incline alla svendita del proprio talento, ed ha troppi contenuti per fare una cosa del genere.
Tredici singoli più quattro inediti di cui il primo, "Stay", ad aprire le danze. Ricorda vagamente il sound à la Depeche Mode, diciamo che sarebbe stato bene nell'album "Asile's World". Segue la hit che nei mesi scorsi ha massacrato il cervello a frequent listeners di radio commerciali e non, "Gli Ostacoli del Cuore". Bella canzoncina, ma dopo un po' di heavy rotation può risultare alquanto fastidiosa. Particolarità del pezzo è il connubio con Ligabue, autore della song (a quanto pare scritta appositamente.. Per Elisa), il quale poteva risparmiarci la presenza inopportuna del suo vocione che entra all'improvviso negli ultimi quaranta secondi di canzone facendoci credere che alla vocalist sia preso un attacco di tosse convulsa fulminante. Già che c'era poteva risparmiarci anche il clip da lui stesso diretto ma si sa, pur di apparire qualche secondo in video... Passata l'impressione che stiamo ascoltando un disco nuovo di zecca, arrivano le prime hit, per così dire, da collezione, "Broken" e "Swan". Non proprio due classici di Elisa (la prima è una nenia semiacustica contenuta nel cd "Lotus", che a sua volta era una specie di raccolta di live e pezzi unplugged, la seconda, molto simile, è la colonna sonora di un film pietoso uscito lo scorso anno) comunque due successi da videoclip.
Per avere una scossa tocca aspettare "Labyrinth", primo singolo di sempre di Elisa datato 1997, pezzo che ne evidenziò subito la straordinaria estensione vocale. Il resto delle tracce è una selezione dei singoli da classifica, tra cui sicuramente spiccano "Heaven out of Hell" (bella colonna sonora per un altro film così così), la splendida "Rainbow" nella versione più rockeggiante, il suo primo, suggestivo pezzo in italiano "Luce (Tramonti a Nord-Est)", e "Una Poesia anche per Te", bellissimo estratto da "Pearl Days". Già soltanto per questi quattro pezzi "Soundtrack ‘96 - ‘06" ritrova ragion d'essere.
"Dancing" è un intenso lento di vecchia data in cui la voce di Elisa accarezza le note e dimostra ancora una volta, per chi non credesse la veda dal vivo, di essere la voce più bella e versatile attualmente in circolazione nel panorama pop nazionale. Chiudono il greatest hits altri due inediti, "Eppure sentire" e "Qualcosa che non c'é", entrambi in italiano. Il primo è un altro pezzo lento, introdotto dal piano, molto bello sia musicalmente che dal punto di vista dei lyrics. Peccato che per l'ennesima volta sia rimasto associato ad un film triviale (sarà per questo che la selezione si chiama "Soundtrack"?). Il secondo è meno immediato, caratterizzato da un cantato meno virtuoso, almeno nella prima parte, e un testo molto introspettivo; un'ideale somma di questi primi dieci anni di carriera.
Dopo l'ascolto non si può fare a meno di notare la massiccia presenza del cantato in italiano, una volta quasi impensabile per Elisa. Su quattro inediti ben tre sono in lingua madre, e ciò fa pensare sulla direzione che prenderà Elisa dopo questa raccolta. C'è da chiedersi se questa svolta sia imputabile alla delusione americana di "Pearl Days" o a una effettiva maturazione della ragazza, magari finalmente pronta per affrontare il grande pubblico traducendo emozioni nella stessa lingua. Un'altra critica che si può fare a "Soundtrack" è sulla selezione dei pezzi, che, a parte un ristretto numero di singoli obbligati, lascia un po' a desiderare; sono state tenute fuori belle canzoni come "The Waves" o la stessa "Asile's World" per far posto a roba a volte alquanto sciapa.
Comunque è un greatest hits, e questi tipi di raccolta non sono mai la selezione dei pezzi effettivamente migliori (non lo sono mai neanche i best of). Resta il fatto che se vi piace Elisa in questo cd ci sono ben quattro inediti e una buona rappresentativa del suo repertorio.
