19(84) è un concept album realizzato dal duo musicale degli eclettici Lennox e Stewart. Composto come colonna sonora del film di Radford, ispirato al profetico capolavoro di Orwell scritto nel 19(48), che fu anticipatore di molteplici concetti e tematiche attuali. "Freedom is the freedom to say, 2+2=4, if that is granted all else follows.".
L'innovazione degli Eurythmics, più che nel binomio musicale voce-sintetizzatore, si evince dall'impatto visivo, in particolare con la figura sottilmente intrigante ed ambigua della Lennox. In tutta l'opera predominano cupe sonorità elettroniche, estranianti, introspettive, ripetitive ed ossessive, sulle quali si inserisce l'affascinante e incisiva voce della cantante. I brani si adattano e si compenetrano efficacemente come supporto musicale all'atmosfera desolante del film, accentuandone l'effetto altamente drammatico. Lo strumentale "Winston's diary" è tanto breve quanto delicato, mentre "For the love of big brother" è sinuoso e coinvolgente. "Is she a member of the Thought Police or just an amateur spy?".
"Julia" è un piccolo capolavoro struggente e raffinato, quasi in contrapposizione agli altri brani. L'interpretazione di Ann possiede una notevole espressività ed intensità. Julia, figura cardine nella pellicola, è una donna alla disperata e vana ricerca insieme al protagonista Winston, della libertà sessuale e psicologica. I personaggi suscitano tenerezza e partecipazione, però purtroppo vivono un incubo senza possibilità di risveglio. "The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world...it varies from individual to individual.". L'incalzante e martellante "Room 101", conclude il disco.
