Quando ho visto la copertina per la prima volta avrò avuto tra i 10 e gli 11 anni, e ricordo molto bene che mi stesi a ridere per non so quanto. Comunque, palla di lardo a parte, devo dire che questo disco mi piace un casino. Alcuni, anzi, quasi tutti i brani, tra pubblicità di Adidas, Fastweb e Nastro Azzurro, tra giochi come "FIFA 99", tra film come "Una settimana da Dio" e trasmissioni televisive come "la Domenica Sportiva" (e ci sarebbero tantissimi altri esempi), li ho sentiti più volte in tv e nei videogiochi che alla radio; quando ho ascoltato la prima volta il disco ho detto: "Ah! Mi era sembrato di aver già sentito questa canzone da qualche altra parte...".
Tutte track esilaranti per un'ottima oretta di dance, ma di quella fatta bene, ed uscite fuori in un periodo dove a farla da padroni erano Chemical Brothers e Prodigy. Credo che "The Rockafeller Skank" sia stata ascoltata almeno una volta da ognuno di noi; magari alcuni non sanno il titolo, ma sicuro l'hanno sentita; impossibile scordarsi quella benedetta frase "Right about now, the funk soul brother, check it out now, the funk soul brother..." che si ripete per 7 minuti in tutte le salse possibili e immaginabili.
Proprio il fatto della ripetizione è una delle principali caratteristiche dell'album; tutte le song sono costituite da piccoli frammenti di brano ripetuti all'inverosimile al solo scopo di penetrare dentro la testa.
"The Rockafeller Skank" è preceduta da "Right Here, Right Now", la track di apertura, quella che forse mi ha coinvolto di più, grazie ad un motivetto che ha violato in poco tempo il codice d'accesso del mio cervello, nel quale si è stanziato per non uscirne più; carino anche il video, che termina con la bellissima immagine che vediamo nella copertina.
Altro grande capolavoro del disco è la bellissima "Praise You", con un magnifico pianoforte che accompagna una delle canzoni dance più ballate alla fine degli anni '90. Un sound stile San Siro nei primi minuti di "Soul Surfing", con tanto di fischietti e trombette da stadio che secondo me la rendono la canzone più particolare in assoluto. Se invece siete maniaci di impianti audio non c'è niente di meglio dei bassi paurosi di "Love Island" per testare la potenza del vostro sub.
Infine, è bene ricordare che Fat Boy Slim ha davvero un ottimo ed inconfondibile stile di mixaggio, che lo ha reso in poco tempo uno dei migliori artisti nel suo genere. "You've Come A Long Way Baby" è forse il miglior coniglio che il simpatico deejay abbia mai tirato fuori dal suo cilindro; assieme a "The Fat Of The Land" il mio disco dance preferito.

L’atmosfera di “Right here right now”, un brano che avrete sentito sicuramente, di ineguagliabile atmosfera.
Un disco con le palle. Premettendo che io in genere non ascolto molta dance, ma sono fa di Fatboy Slim e Planet Funk.
