LA RECENSIONE

Gli Infectious Grooves sono uno dei side-project di Mike Muir, che come primo mestiere fa il cantante nei Suicidal Tendencies, e del compagno di band Robert Trujillo, oggi nei Metallica. Come spesso succede, la qualità dei dischi nati come progetti alternativi, composti quasi per gioco, è molto alta, forse proprio perchè liberi da eccessive pressioni dell'industria musicale. E questo disco dimostra appieno questa teoria, infatti l'ormai stanco hardcore impegnato dei Suicidal Tendencies qui è completamente rigenerato da un vigorosissimo funk-punk à la Red Hot Chili Peppers. E proprio i Peppers sembrano essere la principale fonte di ispirazione della band, come nell'iniziale "Violent And Funky" che sfodera un riff degno del migliore Hillel Slovak: impossibile star fermi durante l'ascolto!
Naturalmente non sono un semplice gruppo-fotocopia dei Peperoncini, come tanti ne sono nati nella California di quel periodo, infatti i nostri hanno un sound molto personale e riescono ad unire, spesso all'interno della stessa canzone anche, i generi più disparati: emblema di questo mix spericolato di generi è sicuramente "Made It": inizio jazzato, cambio di tempo con schitarrate heavy-metal e finale di nuovo jazz! Le origini hardcore del leader traspaiono nella title-track e in "Frustrated Again", ma il tutto ha un suono decisamente meno minaccioso e più allegro e divertente!

Funk-rock per party infuocati, come diceva George Clinton: Free your mind and your ass will follow!
Se siete fan dei RHCP prima maniera (cioè prima che Frusciante rammollisse progressivamente il sound della band) amerete questo disco!
