Un'amalgama di vecchi pezzi rivisti in una nuova chiave interpretativa, assieme ad una manciata di diverse nuove cover (che negli album di Cocker non mancano mai); riesplorazioni divine delle note di Dylan, Van Morrison, Randy Newman, Stevie Wonder, condite da abbondanti dosi di blues e soul; Il tutto guidato dall'indescrivibile interpretazione di Cocker, che fra queste tracce risulta più che mai ispirata, riconfermandolo nel suo genere (blues-soul), il più grande interprete canoro mondiale.
"Organic" (1996), è forse il lavoro più ricco, più abbondante ed ispirato della sua carriera, uno dei suoi album migliori, come da anni non sfornava. La forza dell'album, mi sembra scontato dirlo, è la voce di Cocker. Quella voce calda, rugginosa, estremamente energica e potente, ormai inconfondibile per tutto il mondo, con la quale Joe fa quello che vuole. Può accarezzare dolcemente e picchiare duro a distanza di pochi secondi. Perchè lo sappiamo, le nostre emozioni viaggiano rapide, si muovono, mutano, si mescolano, si accasciano, si rialzano, esplodono e la voce del 'nostro' le sue le sa seguire alla perfezione, in ogni singolo istante, in ogni loro minimo movimento.
Musicalmente troviamo una marea di chitarre e armoniche a bocca a discapito dei fiati rispetto agli altr precedentii album dell'artista, dove questi ultimi la facevano da padroni. Basta pensare alla versione della celeberrima " You Can Leave Your Hat On" presente in questo album: eliminati i famosissimi fiati sostituiti da note alla chitarra; il risultato è ottimo, a mio parere migliore della più famosa e precedente versione. Ad ogni modo il pezzo è diventato una canzone diversa, assumendo una personalità propria. La canzone di apertura è una delle più riuscite ed esplosive "Into The Mystic": quando il tono si fa più vivo e si arriva al ritornello, urlato a squarcia gola da Joe, è un grande spettacolo. Fra gli altri pezzi segnalo la toccante versione di "Heart Full Of Rain": apre il cuore in due. Fra i brani più ritmati e corposi ricordo la conclusiva bellissima e blueseggiante "Can't Find My Way Home", dove la voce di Cocker esplode come il ruggito di un leone: devastante.
L'artista di Sheffield dopo un periodo non troppo felice, sia per la sua musica (non troppo belli i suoi precedenti lavori), che per la sua vita (risaputi i suoi continui abusi di alcool e droghe), ritrova sè stesso in un album equilibrato e splendido. Perchè oramai lo sappiamo bene, quando Cocker ci si mette e lascia uscire tutta la sua anima dalle vibrazioni di quelle corde vocali, non ce n' è per nessuno, non ha eguali al mondo. "Organic" ne è un esempio lampante.
