Il sestetto milanese dei Lacuna Coil, attivo ormai da quasi un decennio, si appresta a confermare se non addirittura ad aumentare il consenso raccolto grazie al precedente Comalies del 2002.
Le tredici canzoni di Karmacode – compresa la felice rivisitazione di Enjoy The Silence dei Depeche Mode – sono arrangiate e prodotte in maniera impeccabile: le voci di Andrea e della carismatica Cristina si amalgamano alla perfezione, e l’intera band dà l’impressione di essere ancora più compatta ed affiatata che in passato. Il seguito di cui gode negli Stati Uniti (questa estate si esibirà con Ozzy Osbourne e System Of A Down sul palco principale del celebre festival itinerante Ozzfest) solletica il campanilismo di certo giornalismo musicale nostrano, interessato più che altro ad esaltare il clichè dell’artista italiano che ce l’ha fatta all’estero. Non siamo tuttavia dinnanzi ad una band costruita a tavolino da qualche avida casa discografica desiderosa di vendere agli americani, rimasti orfani degli Evanescence (qualcuno sa che fine abbiano fatto?), l’ennesima paccottiglia gothic-metal da saldi di fine stagione.
Il primo singolo Our Truth, già apparso nella colonna sonora di Underworld: Evolution, nonostante sia orecchiabile non dovrebbe fare gridare i fan dei Lacuna Coil al tradimento. Come ha ben intuito Cristina le critiche cui viene sottoposta la sua band sono dovute in larga parte al fatto che un’altissima percentuale di ascoltatori di questo genere sono anche musicisti. La verità è che, oltre alla voce aggressiva ma aggraziata di Cristina, i Lacuna Coil possono contare su alcuni riff dall’efficacia micidiale e su una sezione ritmica che in alcuni episodi ricorda i migliori Korn (What I See). Quanti altri gruppi metal in Italia, ma anche nel resto d’Europa, possono vantare credenziali del genere? Pochi, ammesso che ce ne siano.

L'album è superiore alla sufficienza, un lavoro che di sicuro non ha deluso né i fans né la critica.
La voce di Christina continua a giocare ruoli importanti in questo album, mentre la voce maschile talvolta sembra fare il ruolo che fa Fred Durst nei Limp Bizkit.

Non scandalizza quindi ammettere che di questo disco in pochi sentivano veramente la necessità.
Da un momento all'altro le chitarre acustiche di "Within Me" fanno ritrovare un piacevole interesse all'ascolto.

È sicuramente un cd di facile ascolto, non siamo infatti di fronte ai Dream Theater o agli Opeth.
Se ci si attende un capolavoro si rimane inevitabilmente delusi, se invece lo si affronta un po' più a cuor leggero l'impressione che se ne avrà sarà migliore.

Il netto miglioramento della voce di Andrea Ferro, da sempre la più grande pecca della band, mi ha lasciato senza parole.
I Lacuna Coil stanno veramente dicendo qualcosa di nuovo nella scena metal mondiale, varcando i limiti di un genere in via di estinzione.
