Conosciuto semplicemente come "l'album che ha unito il rock alla dance", "Screamadelica" fu molto ma molto di più.
Con questo disco i Primal Scream rivoluzionarono totalmente il modo di fare rock,
e traghettarono questo genere di musica fuori dagli stupidi ed ottusi stereotipi degli anni '80; sterotipi che avevano portato band tutte uguali fra di loro a comporre dischi tutti uguali fra di loro.
Reclutati produttori e musicisti provenienti da ambiti musicali diversi, i Primal Scream persero per l'occasione la classica identità di rock band e si
trasformarono in una specie di collettivo in cui ognuno poteva portare la propria esperienza e dire la sua.
Lasciando così libero spazio alla creatività all'ispirazione di ognuno, venne alla luce questo disco
in cui il rock assume forme inusuali ed ispirate.
Rock da ballare, come si diceva in principio: "Movin' On Up" - rock/soul dal groove irresistibile - "Slip Inside This House" - una cover acid house di un brano dei 13th Floor Elevators - "Don't Fight It, Feel It" - techno/house -.
Ma non solo: ballate notturne come "Damaged", "I'm Comin' Down" e "Shine Like Stars", danno prova di una band che può gestire con la stessa maestrìa pianoforti, basi elettroniche, chitarre acustiche, melodie orientali, assoli elettrici, percussioni,
fiati jazz. Per non parlare poi del cuore dell'album, in cui vengono proposti i remix di due vecchi brani della band: "Loaded", trasfigurata in un sanguigno funk e "Come Together", un colossale gospel-reggae dal passo da elefante.
Ma il vero capolavoro di "Screamadelica" è "Higher Than The Sun".
Un electro/pop onirico e sognante presentato in chiave dub; un brano che viene poi ripreso verso la fine del disco da Andrew Weatherhall e dal mitico Jah Wobble che lo trasformano in "una sinfonia dub in due parti". Visionaria ed ambient la prima parte, esotica e sinuosa la seconda.
Vi può piacere o no, ma a "Screamadelica" non può essere negato il merito di essere uno degli album più creativi ed ispirati degli ultimi anni e di aver ridato linfa vitale ad un genere musicale ormai dato per spacciato.

Gillespie lancia il suo grido primordiale verso una società in crisi come quella inglese della Tucher.
Il fatto stesso che i Primal abbiano osato con una tale naturalezza e tranquillità mosse del genere è la piena dimostrazione di quanto stiano avanti rispetto allo stagnante conformismo dei 'fratellini burrascosi'.
