Uno dei migliori album dei Queen post '80.
"A Kind Of Magic" è giustamente considerato la rinascita dei Queen dopo il vertiginoso calo qualitativo dei precedenti album, lo Spazio Caldo le Opere. I fasti degli anni '70 con tutte le varie sperimentazioni ovviamente, non torneranno più ma la band ci offre comunque molti pezzi assolutamente da non sottovalutare.
L'iniziale "One Vision", brano scritto per la prima volta da tutta la band in stato euforico per la straordinaria esibizione al Live Aid, è un gran bel pezzo rock, con voci distorte e, oserei dire, un minimo sperimentale, penalizzato dall'eccessiva lunghezza che può risultare noioso. Segue "A Kind Of Magic", falsamente improvvisata, dove Deacon fa sfoggio del suo talento al basso con divertenti riff e "Pain Is so Close To Pleasure", molto simile alla title-track soprattutto per il ritmo che ricorda lo stile Motown, dove fra l'altro Freddie sfodera il suo falsetto più acuto dai tempi di "Cool Cat".
"One Year Of Love": melodica ballata firmata dall'anima popolare gruppo, Deacon che, dopo un battibecco con Brian, decise di sostituire la parte di chitarra con un assolo di sax. Sempre di Deacon ma accreditata a Mercury (sotto decisione del bassista per gli aiuti ricevuti in sede di arrangiamento) "Friends Will Be Friends" che ricalca la falsa riga del rock da stadio queeniano, stile "We Are The Champions" e "We Will Rock You", senza però raggiungere la notorietà e popolarità di quest'ultime. La splendida "Who Wants To Live Forever" composta da May in automobile, che ci narra gli interrogativi della vita, interpretata splendidamente da Brian che apre con la sua voce dolce e melodica e Freddie, che mostra una prestazione vocale tenorile invidiabile (raggiunge uno dei suoi picchi più alti anche se all'epoca accanito fumatore); pare ovvio consacrarlo come una delle voci più belle di sempre. "Don't Lose Your Head", Taylor, pezzo con melodia molto cupa, basato ovviamente sul ritmo e batteria, abbastanza banale, impiegata anche in una campagna anti alcool. "Gimme The Prize" e "Princes Of The Universe" sono le tracce più hard rock che i Queen abbiano mai composto; ispirate entrambe al film, dimostrano la bravura di Brian soprattutto nell'intro della prima mentre la seconda è aperta con cori e virtuosismi, stile storico della band.
L'edizione cd contiene anche due remix, "Friends Will Be Friends Will Be Friends" e "A Kind Of A Kind Of Magic", e un pezzo strumentale molto interessante "Forever".
Ottimo disco quindi, decisamente il migliore dei Queen nel loro sound più "popolare" insieme a "The Game", promosso anche dal fantastico Magic Tour che stranamente non toccò l'Italia, e che ebbe come apice il concerto a Wembley che è rimasto nella storia della musica live.

La piena rinascita dei Queen avviene nel 1986, anno in cui vede la luce "A Kind Of Magic".
"Who Wants To Live Forever" è un capolavoro di grande spessore e profondità.

Questo disco immortale ha suoni geniali che hanno rinnovato il techno-rock dove la voce di Freddie si distende in tutta la sua potenza di fuoco.
Se fossi in voi farei mio questo disco immortale, e le 400 mila anime al Wembley Stadium quella sera ne sono la dimostrazione più lampante.
