Beh che dire? I Queen restano i Queen e quella musica non tornerà mai più.
Fatto sta che l'album a mio avviso resta il migliore della discografia di Freddie Mercury e co. e comunque il loro miglior disco anni '80, su questo siamo tutti d'accordo no?
Anno 1985: I Queen tornano in studio dopo un lungo tour cercando di creare un album che potesse diventare la colonna sonora del film "Highlander", già, proprio quello interpretato dal mitico Cristopher Lambert. Ma a differenza di "Flash" dell'81 i Queen realizzano non una colonna sonora, ma un vero e proprio album di canzoni (uscito nel 1986) tra cui quelle del film Highlander. Si parte alla grande con "One Vision" canzone molto potente e rockeggiante in perfetto stile Queen, la quale aprirà anche i concerti del nuovo (e purtroppo ultimo) tour dei Queen. Il testo della canzone, scritto da tutti e 4 i membri del gruppo, riprende un pò a grandi linee i pensieri e le idee di M.L.King nel suo libro "I have a dream" del 1960 Si parte bene e si continua meglio. Il secondo singolo è giust'appunto "A Kind of Magic" un pezzo che è giustamente entrato nella storia dei Queen e della musica internazionale anche grazie al suo ritornello molto semplice e orecchiabile. "One Year of Love" è una ballata scritta dal bassista John Deacon molto malinconica e sentimentale la quale si sentirà anche durante il film Highlander. Da notare che questa canzone è l'unica di tutta la carriera dei Queen in cui si sente il Sax, verso il finale.
"Pain is so Close to Pleasure" è invece un lento abbastanza orecchiabile ma non eccellente. Non spendo molte parole per questa canzone. Ma se questa canzone non arriverà proprio al cuore, la successiva "Freinds Will Be Friends" lo farà e alla grande. Canzone molto leggera in cui si esalta la voce di Freddie e anche la chitarra di Brian May. Anche questo un pezzo molto molto bello e in perfetto stile Queen. Ed ecco la canzone più pacata ma più intensa dell'album:"Who Wants To Live Forever" in cui si parla dei temi dell'esistenza in maniera diretta. La canzone è stupenda anche grazie all'interpretazione che Brian May e soprattutto Freddie Mercury gli danno. La canzone è accompagnata anche da un videoclip in cui i Queen suonano dentro una specie di chiesa in cui ci sono tante comparse con delle candele in mano. Passata la fase lenta e sentimentale dell'album si arriva alla tiratissima "Gimme The Prize" che richiama molto lo stile Queen anni '70. Bel pezzo, ma non il massimo.
L'album si chiude come meglio non poteva chiudersi. "Don't Lose Your Head" e "Princes of the Universe". La prima una ballata in perfetto stile metà anni '80 che sembra richiamare gruppi come gli Eurythmics. Canzone molto bella ma un pò patetica forse. L'ultima è invece una delle più belle dell'album. "Princes of the Universe" è una delle più veloci e potenti canzoni di questo gruppo che ha fatto la storia soprattutto grazie ad un leader in grado di coinvolgere masse di persone negli stadi come nessun altro grazie al suo carisma e alla sua istrionità.
Il tour dell'86 sarà l'ultimo ma forse anche il migliore dei Queen.

La piena rinascita dei Queen avviene nel 1986, anno in cui vede la luce "A Kind Of Magic".

Questo disco immortale ha suoni geniali che hanno rinnovato il techno-rock dove la voce di Freddie si distende in tutta la sua potenza di fuoco.
Se fossi in voi farei mio questo disco immortale, e le 400 mila anime al Wembley Stadium quella sera ne sono la dimostrazione più lampante.
