Anno 2004: l'inizio di una nuova saga, anzi, di una nuova era, per i Rhapsody, che si accasano alla Magic Circle Records di Mr. Manowar Joey Da Maio. Il primo frutto di questa nuova alleanza è "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands II", che oltre a rappresentare l'inizio della Dark Secret Saga, ancora più bella e avvincente della precedente Emerald Sword Saga, segna anche una svolta netta nel sound della band triestina: per questo disco i 5 Mighty Warriors colaborano per la prima volta con una vera orchestra sinfonica; il risultato è un opera tanto titanica a rischiosa quanto sontuosa, raffinata e di qualità sublime, un vero e proprio capolavoro di Symphonic Progressive Epic Metal, con tanto di cori, flauti, ottoni e archi che danno man forte alla chitarra di Turilli, alle tastiere di Staropoli e alla splendida voce del cantastorie Fabio Lione.
Il masterpiece si apre con "The Dark Secret", intro di ben 4 minuti che vede la partecipazione di Cristopher Lee, che con la sua voce baritonale e maestosa racconta l'inizio della saga sullo sfondo di un crescendo sinfonico che esplode nel finale e ci trasporta a "Unholy Warcry", canzone lontanissima dalle quattro precedenti opener; non più power metal, ma orchestrazioni sontuose e cori solenni, a cui fa da contrasto il ritornello catcy e orecchiabile: opener spiazzante (per i primi fan dei Rhapsody) ma che rappresenta al massimo il mood generale dell'opera. Segue a ruota "Never Forgotten Heroes", forte di una intro sinfonica e fiabesca e una bella melodia, più vicina ai classici stilemi power; molto bello il testo che rievoca alcuni personaggi della Emerald Sword Saga (Airin, Arwald e il Guerriero del Ghiaccio). Come in "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands" anche qui la quarta track "Elgard's Green Valleys"è un branetto acustico folkeggiante, la cui melodia verrà poi ripresa in "Guardiani del destino".
Davvero incantevole la ballad "The Magic Of The Wizards Dream" dove è assolutamente impossibile non rimanere stregati dalla voce, così calda, avvolgente, melodiosa ed espressiva di Fabio Lione, che rende questo pezzo qualcosa di unico, incantabile; neanche The Voice Of Rock Glenn Hughes avrebbe saputo fare di meglio. Lo spirito profondamente epico e sinfonico di "SOEL II" si manifesta in tutta la sua grandiosità nei 10 minuti e 32 secondi di "Erian's Mystical Rhymes" un'incredibile suite narrativa che vede un vero e proprio duetto tra Fabio Lione e i cori tenorili, su una base sifonica potente, maestosa e orecchiabile. Stupendi anche il passaggio strumentale e la parte narrata conclusiva (sullo sfondo di un pianoforte) che chiudono la suite. "The Last Angels' Call" invece è la canzone più classica a power dell'album, la più "Emerald Sword Style" con un ritornello stupendo e trascinante che riporta alle sonorità di "Dawn Of Victory" e soprattutto di "Power Of The Dragonflame". Segue la breve a rilassante ballata folk "Dragonland's River" che offre un ritorno alle sonorità di "Forest Of The Unicorns" e un'altra prestazione stupenda di Fabietto Lione. "Sacred Power Of Raging Winds" è la secobnda suite dell'album, che a differenza della precedente offre maggiori passaggi stumentali, uno stile più power e un bellissimo intermezzo che simula un drammatico dialogo in sogno tra Dargor e il padre Vankar. (curiosi di saperne di più? comprate gli album dei Rhapsody! eheh...). Altra gemma di incredibile bellezza è "Guardiani Del Destino", ammaliante e stupenda nella sua splendida melodia medievaleggiante e nel suo evocativo cantato in italiano; questa canzone ha un nonsochè di ipnotico, di ammaliante, si potrebbe ascoltarla per ore senza mai annoiarsi. Segue "Shadows Of Death" che nonostante sia molto importante nell'economia della narrazione risulta la track meno riuscita del disco, un mezzo passaggio a vuoto come fu quattro anni prima "The Mighty Ride Of The Firelord"; niente di grave comunque. Ecco che arriviano alla conculsione, a "Nightfall On The Grey Mountains": gli ululati dei lupi e la melodia tastieristica iniziale sembrano riportarci a "Beyond The Gates Of Infinity"; sono un'impressione, perchè questa è una composizione molto più tranquilla ed elegante, dal retrogusto piacevolmente onirico, che fa così scendere la notte sulla Saga dell'Oscuro Segreto, segnando la fine del quinto capolavoro assoluto dei Rhapsody.

Un album decisamente ascoltabile, con molti pezzi di indubbia qualità, ma che non si discosta poi molto dagli ormai conosciuti e rimestati cliché del power-epic metal.
Speriamo che un giorno si discostino dalle diecimila band epic tutte uguali quando finalmente non dovremo più dire: 'sono i Blind Guardian italiani' ma 'hanno influenzato il genere COME i Blind Guardian'.
