In tempi in cui vengono criticati album del calibro di "See you on the other side" e "In Your Honor" dei Foo Fighters vengono, invece, osannati gruppi a dir poco pessimi come i System Of A Down. Malakian padre&figlio e soci sono fatti apposta per la pochezza di Mtv e nient'altro.
I loro buoni album li hanno fatti, e parlo del primo omonimo, di "Toxicity" e al massimo "Steal This Album!". Questi ennesimo gruppo nu-metal esageratamente sopravvalutato ha avuto la brillante idea di pubblicare due album praticamente identici a distanza di sei mesi per ragioni di business (qualcuno vuole darmi torto?) e far spendere alla sua "amata" schiera di fan la bellezza di 43 euro e 80 centesimi di nulla.
Oddio qualche canzone decente in Mesmerize c'era e l'artwork era davvero molto bello e curato. Hypnotize forse è un pelino migliore del gemello "estivo"... Buoni pezzi sparsi quà e là ma mi sembrano tutti molto simili tra loro fatta eccezione per "Vicinity of Obscenity". Le canzoni che rallentano un po' il ritmo sono cantante (?) dal chitarrista Daron Malakian che ha una voce a dir poco orrenda, senza contare che hanno un cantante che può fare la differenza. Comprate questo disco e rimarrete con un pugno di mosche in mano.

Questo disco non è assolutamente da buttare, ma per chi ha amato il primo lavoro dei S.O.A.D. il tutto assume un gusto dolceamaro.
Avete bisogno di accontentare persone con diversi gusti musicali ad una vostra festa? Mettete su l’accoppiata 'Mezmerize - Hypnotize' e il successo sarà assicurato.

Il secondo, invece, è semplicemente geniale: in meno di 3 minuti si passa da psycho rock a ritornello funky soul anni '70, con accenni dance e metal.
Un album che farà entrare i System of A Down nell'olimpo non solo del heavy alternativo.
