Dovete sapere che scoprii i Beatles a 12 anni, con "She Loves You", ho avuto una specie di Beatlemania ritardata, un signore mi ha regalato un libro in olandese con delle foto bellissime, fra cui c'eran pezzi di tovagliolo venduti a "peso d'oro" dove avevano mangiato i Beatles. Non so bene, ma io ero veramente fuso per loro, me li sognavo di notte, se trovavo un articolo su di loro lo ritagliavo e con il Vinavil lo incollavo su un quaderno. E sono maschio, ma riconosco in questa cosa un'omosessualità latente, si perchè come spiegare questo "amore" incondizionato, devoto, esclusivo - Siamo tutti ricchioni - Comunque mi ricordo che gli album preferiti andavano da "Please Please Me" a "Meet The Beatles": già "Help" era pericolosamente sovversivo con quella "Yesterday": era gia troppo seria, adulta.
A me piacevano i Beatles lisci, senza baffi o barba, massimo "Ticket To Ride" , andavo pazzo anzi per le loro re-edition tipo "Please Mr.postman" o "Not A Second Time" , il Top era il film "Help" che la Rai ha passato in seconda serata giusto 30anni fa: i miei mi hanno capito e mi hanno lasciato campo libero. Quel film di Richard Lester è stato il top per me, vedere i Beatles "muoversi" e cantare in un film è stato un evento memorabile.
E' per questo che per me il miglior loro disco è "With The Beatles": i veri Beatles, scarni, con alcune songs imbattibili tipo "Don't Bother Me" di George Harrison (la migliore dell'album), e una certa "All My Loving". Siamo in piena Beatlemania, d'accordo, poca roba sotto il sole dal punto di vista musicale, ma questo disco ed il successivo "A Hard Day'S Night" hanno scatenato una ripresa ad ampio respiro di Rock n Roll a livello mondiale: grazie a loro si è sviluppato un "piccolo fenomeno" tipo il garage punk sixties americano di Seeds - We The People - Standells, insomma il garage dei Sixties.
Un disco coi cazzi ed i controcazzi.

Il progresso è evidente, e merita la sufficienza, anche se non è «A Hard Day’s Night» o «Help!».
