La Creation rasentò il fallimento per la registrazione di questo lavoro. Per fortuna (si fa per dire) arrivarono gli Oasis tre anni più tardi a rimpinguare le casse societarie.
Lavoro ambizioso, originale e a tratti oggettivamente geniale quello dei quattro ragazzotti di Dublino capitanati da Kevin Shields autore praticamente di quasi tutti i brani e i testi. Chitarre urlanti e sampler in primo piano a creare un'intricata selva di suoni dalla quale emerge lontana la voce angelica di Belinda Butcher. Melodie oniriche e dolcissime si mescolano tra di loro, creando acquerelli ora intimisti, ora più incisivi e dinamici, in una sorta di pop espressionista.
Se Van Gogh fosse stato un rocker avrebbe suonato così.
Capolavoro fascinoso e fuori dagli schemi esce tre anni dopo “Isn’t Anything” in un mondo migliore avrebbe fatto sfracelli. Raggiunge il 24° posto nelle chart d’oltremanica, risultato comunque ottimo per un lavoro per molti ma non per tutti. Tanto bastò agli appassionati e alla critica per innamorarsene.
Alcuni brani possono risultare fastidiosi, ma canzoni come “Loomer”,”When You Sleep”,”Sometimes” o “What You Want” sono brani archetipici, melodie che stuzzicano l’inconscio liberando ricordi lontani e desideri inespressi. Quelli appunto di un mondo migliore.
Dopo quest’album spariranno dalle scene (correva l’anno 1991) lasciando rimpianti nei fans, ma soprattutto bellissimi ricordi.
Se avete 10 euri da spendere, questo album fa al caso vostro.

Ascoltare questo disco è senza dubbio la miglior esperienza sensoriale e metafisica che un uomo possa fare.
