Questa proprio non me l'aspettavo! Quando decisi di ascoltare l’album di debutto della band inglese ero convinto che ne sarei rimasto soddisfatto. I presupposti c'erano: gli Oasis di "(What's the story) Morning Glory?" e di “Heathen Chemistry” mi avevano entusiasmato con brani come "Wonderwall" o “Stop Crying Your Heart Out", e secondo molti anche "Definitely Maybe" era un’opera di eccezionale qualità. Ok, mi ero illuso! Ma stiamo scherzando? Sì, è ascoltabile, ma non è certo un cd “intramontabile” o un “capolavoro” come ho sentito dire da alcuni. Lo trovo abbastanza noioso e floscio.
All’inizio ascoltavo i primi due brani, “Rock’n’roll Star” e “Shakermaker” nella speranza che si arrivasse in fretta alla terza canzone: “Live Forever”. Bella, molto, forse l’unica. Poi continuavo, cercando di farmi piacere “Up In The Sky” e “Columbia”, fino a “Supersonic”, altro pezzo interessante, e quindi terminavo (non sempre, a volte la smettevo prima) con “Bring It On Down” e le altre, di cui non ricordo neanche i nomi, tanto sono insignificanti. Adesso non faccio neppure questo.
Se un album non piace, bisogna scartarlo e dedicarsi ad un altro, mi sembra inutile insistere! Però ci ho provato ad accettarlo, tuttavia senza riuscirci. Gli Oasis hanno fatto di meglio negli anni successivi per questo rimangono uno delle mie band preferite; il mio voto è 2.
Di meno non me la sento di dare perché se ascolto i Blue (ammesso che la loro si possa considerare musica), “Definitely Maybe” mi appare davvero un capolavoro.

Noel Gallagher ci aveva avvertito, gli Oasis non sono innovatori, vogliono solo colpirti con canzoni semplici che sono instant classic.
Live Forever è un vero inno alla vita, per chi cerca di realizzare qualcosa di eccezionale e vivere così per sempre.

La prima canzone è "Rock'N'Roll Star", pezzo storico degli Oasis, che porta una gran bella scarica di adrenalina.
Un'altra canzone aggressiva è "Cigarettes & Alcohol", strapiena di riferimenti alla droga, ma da ascoltare comunque tranquillamente.

Live Forever: una gran canzone che divenne il vero e proprio inno di una generazione.
Se la prima si perde in accordi un po’ troppo azzardati, la seconda annoia con la sua eccessiva mielosità.
