[Ebbene sì, sono tornato a cimentarmi nel ruolo di recensore dopo le mie prime, a dir poco pessime, apparizioni]
Uscito nel 98, "The Masterplan" è una raccolta di b-sides dei fratelli Gallagher, tutto il meglio che è venuto fuori dai primi tre album ma non in essi contenuto.
Si parte alla grandissima con "Acquiesce" nella cui intro si alternano note e parole di "Morning Glory" (se ci si fa caso: si tratta di una versione acustica cantata da Noel) ad accordi in completa distorsione, mix che si protrae per buoni venti secondi prima di sfociare nella pura energia della canzone, ancora più caratteristica perché unico pezzo del gruppo cantato da entrambi i fratelli.
Il motivo conduttore del disco non si discosta neanche per un secondo da quello che ci si presenta all'inizio; così si passa per "Underneath The Sky" a due ballate di Noel quali "Talk Tonight" e "Going Nowhere"; subito dopo c'è un altro pezzo carico, anzi stracarico di energia come "Fade Away", seguono "The Swamp Song", "I Am The Walrus" (come tutti sanno, cover dei Beatles) e "Listen Up". In questo passaggio troviamo tutta l'essenza degli Oasis di quel periodo, pochi dischi possono vantare di presentare in fila una qualità di canzoni rock 'n' roll come questa!!!
Come lo stile vuole, dopo del vero rock si torna a due ballate: che sono "Rockin' Chair" e "Half The World Away" (altro pezzo cantato da Noel), cui seguono "(It's Good) To Be Free" e "Stay Young"; e proprio queste quattro canzoni testimoniano ancora di più l'alternanza perfetta di rock e ballate che gli Oasis sono riusciti a mettere insieme in questo disco.
Prima della conclusione c'è ancora tempo per una buona dose di adrenalina con "Headshrinker". Proprio le note finali di questa canzone ci introducono nel migliore dei modi all'ultimo pezzo: "The Masterplan", canzone capolavoro della band di Manchester. Difficile definire le emozioni che può provocare, la voce di Noel va all'unisono con la musica, quello che si sente e che rimane nell'aria sono solo brividi...
