Più lo ascolto e più mi piace. Più mi piace e più mi esalto ! Da circa una settimana “Songs For The Deaf”, il nuovo album dei Queens of the Stone Age, ha strappato il monopolio assoluto del lettore CD.
15 stonerrocksongs, di cui una metà molto retro, influenzate dai primi QOTSA se non addirittura dai Kyuss, e la seconda innovativa, nella scia delle sperimentazioni che hanno tanto distinto il loro precedente lavoro “R”. Ce n’é per tutti quindi, sia per coloro che amano i vecchi o primi QOTSA che per quelli che hanno apprezzato le empiriche evoluzioni più recenti.
È questa la chiave di lettura (anzi d’ascolto) dell’ultimo e nuovo capolavoro della Band di Josh Homme, anima e mente ormai da oltre 10 anni delle scena Stoner mondiale. Band che inoltre può vantarsi di avere un batterista come Dave Grohl (ex Nirvana e Foo Fighter) e un lead vocalist/guitarist come Mark Lanegan (ex Screaming Trees).
Le prime 5 tracce sono le più dirette, costruite sul tradizionale gioco psicadelico tra accordi minimalisti di chitarra con voci progressive costruite sopra e viceversa (accordi progressivi e voce statica). La mia preferita é la nr.5, The Sky Is Fallin’, il cui riff mi fa esaltare ogni volta che lo sento, costringendomi al bis (a voi il sample). Bellissime tra le restanti anche “A Song For The Deaf”, la nr.11 (con voce di Lanegan, gran pezzo) e Do It Again (superfuzzy), mentre le più reazionarie sono indubbiamente la nr.6, Hanging’ Tree e la nr.9 (quasi punk). Sicuramente sorprendenti sono la nr.12 (Anorher Love Song, molto anni ´70) e la nr.14, la acustica Mosquito Song, che ricorda molto le ottime performance soliste di Marc Lanegan. Everybody’s Gonna Be Happy chiude infine in modo simpatico l’album.
Presto potremo goderci il video del loro singolo “You Think I Ain’t Worth A Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire”. Ottima anche complessivamente la produzione della Interscope, che lo rende un acquisto accessibile e consigliabile anche ai palati più delicati.
