Tra i capolavori del rock psichedelico degli ultimi 30 anni, "The perfect prescription" si piazza sicuramente tra i migliori e innovativi di sempre.
Jason pierce e Pete kember sembrano veramente i figli spirituali dei "Red Krayola" e dei "13 Floor Elevators", che riprendendone la matrice sonora e filtrandola con suoni spigolosi di "Velvet Underground" e "Jesus and mary chain", danno vita a una psichedelia ultradilatata in un vortice di rock sperimentale e garage ma piu sotto forma di una ipnotica trance rumoristica, che di attacco frontale.
"The perfect prescription" è il loro secondo album, a mio avviso anche il loro apice, in grado di ridare nuova linfa al sofferente rock inglese della metà degli anni 80, una musica allucinata persa in una nebbia eroinomane ma allo stesso tempo, con una creatività che ha pochi precedenti nella storia del rock.
I dieci pezzi del disco sono la rappresentazione in musica del percorso di un overdose, notevole l'arrangiamento creato per collegare la super sperimentale Ecstasy symphony con "Transparent radiation" (Red Krayola), mentre "Walking with jesus" è una sorta di irreale country psichedelico, "Take me to the other side" che apre il disco è puro garage radioattivo con feedback ipnotico in loop, forse il brano piu esplosivo del disco, "Ode to street hassle" è l'omaggio a "lou Reed" dove Pierce riproduce alla perfezione la voce dell ex Velvet, "Come down easy" e "Call the doctor" sono due blues d'avanguardia, mentre il finale è un omaggio a sua maesta cosmica Sun RA con l'incredibile cover di "Starship". Alcuni pezzi sono recuperati dai lavori precedenti, tra questi spicca la leggiadra Feel so good, qua con un nuovo arrangiamento.
Il gruppo farà seguire altri capolavori, ma in pratica tutto il noise psichedelico dagli anni 90 in poi è tutto in questo disco.

Le atmosfere rarefatte, le divagazioni tipicamente trance, lo spaziamento in diverse direzioni stilistiche hanno dato maggiore eterogeneità al classico repertorio del gruppo.
Il disco si conclude con "Call the Doctor", suggestione di un’anima che lascia il corpo in coma a causa dell’overdose.
