Per rispondere a quanti si sono rotti i coglioni di leggere solo recensioni dei CoB, cliccando su Painkiller, ecco che mi appresto a scrivere riguardo quello che a mio parere è il miglior album della storia del metal: "The Sound Of Perseverance" targato Death e ricordato più volte come il "testamento spirituale" del grande Chuck Schuldiner, morto nel 2001 per un cancro.
Chuck e compagni racchiudono in questo CD la vera essenza di quel fottuto genere tanto bistrattato dai perbenisti figli di papà, ma che è stato, dagli anni '80 in poi, un vero e proprio "fenomeno" nella storia della musica... credo che i Death siano al trasposizione più cattiva e più "recente" dei Beatles... (paragone un po' azzardato... ma i Death sono i migliori). Premesso questo, mi posso buttare a capofitto nel recensire l'estremo capolavoro del mitico Chuck.
Le chitarre furiose, i ritmi serrati e la voce inconfondibile di Schuldiner caratterizzano i primi pezzi di questo inestimabile capolavoro. "Scavenger Of Human Sorrow" è la prima perla di questa raccolta e inizia a caricare l'ascoltatore, in vista delle grandi sfuriate finali... quindi seguono "Bite The Pain", il bellissimo "Spirit Crusher" e il forsennato "A Story To Tell"... si arriva al giro di boa con "Flesh And The Power It Holds". Poi il CD si blocca, non perchè sia graffiato dalla fabbrica, ma perchè il ritmo pauroso del quartetto USA viene frenato dall'incantevole, sublime, meravigliosa "Voice Of The Soul". La traccia in questione è un goiello strumentale, che inizia con una linea di chitarra acustica nella quale si fanno lentamente spazio le due chitarre elettriche, che eseguono riff all'unisono che possono essere uguali o indipendenti, creando un intreccio di armonie come solo il caro vecchio Chuck sapeva fare. Sublime alla fine l'escalation dettata da Schuldiner. Questo è un pezzo che nessuno, nemmeno il più estremo degli ascoltatori di dance, troverà brutto o inascoltabile... per quanto riguarda i diffusori del verbo del metallo... beh, loro già sanno di cosa parlo e forse, arrivati a questo punto della recensione, stanno ascoltando questo brano strumentale che è molto meglio di numerosi brani cantati attualmente in circolazione, anche dello stesso genere. Le ultime tre tracce sono "To Forgive Is To Suffer", "A Moment Of Clarity" e la sensazionale cover di "Painkiller" dei Judas Priest. Violentissima.
Chuck non poteva lasciare migliore opera tangibile del suo grande contributo al metal passato, presente e futuro. Sentendo questo lavoro, che costringe l'ascoltatore a tenere le orecchie ben drizzate per tutti e 54 i minuti del disco, non si può fare a meno che pensare che, con la morte di Chuck, il mondo della musica ha davvero perso qualcosa d'importante.

Un grandissimo capolavoro death-metal.
La speranza di tutti è quella che da ‘lassù’ il grande Chuck continui a suonare la sua chitarra e continui a cantare death-metal, come solo lui sapeva fare.

Questo album è pieno di capolavori, cominciando subito con 'Scavenger' che ci fa capire che è un master-piece.
Il modo di cantare di Chuck è perfetto per il tipo di brani proposti, regalando emozioni uniche.

L'apice si chiama proprio questo 'sound of perseverance' ed anche l'ultimo primo della morte di Chuck Schuldiner (rip).
Questo capolavoro è terminato e così si ferma la carriera dei Death... ci auguriamo che Chuck continui a suonare la sua chitarra dal paradiso.

Ogni singolo brano riesce a trasudare sentimenti da ogni nota e soprattutto dalla voce di Chuck, un vero monumento dell’heavy metal.
