Death... il nome parla da solo non credete ?
Fin dai primi demo registrati nel garage del buon vecchio Chuck tutti hanno subito capito le potenzialità di questo gruppo… il resto lo sapete da soli. Questo è l'ultimo studio album prima della morte di una delle icone del metal (non solo del death), quindi per ogni metallaro il suo ascolto porta sempre qualcosa di particolare, commozione, sogno e (personalmente almeno) venerazione completa per il miglior gruppo metal che sia mai esistito (LASCIATEMELO DIRE!!).
Questo album è pieno di capolavori, cominciando subito con "Scavenger", che tra sfuriate, pause e cambi ci fa subito capire che questo album è un master-piece, per poi passare a "Bite The Pain", altro pezzo dalla struttura molto elaborata, tanto da far pensare a molti (me compreso) che comunque i Death siano un gruppo molto vicino ad un certo tipo di prog, si potrebbe dire prog-death, che ovviamente ben pochi sanno fare. Come dimenticare poi i riff taglienti di "Spirit Crusher" ? Il ritornello racchiude in se emozioni che solo Chuck e soci potevano regalare… infatti è grandissima veramente la prestazione di TUTTI i componenti del gruppo, la sezione ritmica è quanto di più spaventoso si possa chiedere, e ovviamente il modo di cantare di Chuck è perfetto per il tipo di brani proposti.
"The Flesh And The Power It Holds" è un altro capolavoro, ricercatissima, con molte riprese e momenti di quiete, il tutto accompagnato dal testo oserei dire quasi filosofico di Chuck. "Voice Of The Soul" è un pezzo completamente strumentale (uno dei pochissimi del gruppo) con arpeggi e melodie tristi e malinconiche che possono solo far sognare l'ascoltatore. "To Forgive Is To Suffer" e "A Moment Of Clarity", sempre stupende e comunque spontanee nelle loro strutture, ci portano alla cover che chiude il disco, ovvero la leggendaria "Painkiller", riformulata con una rabbia e una tecnica stupefacente (alle quali i death ci hanno comunque abituati).
Questo ultimo di una lunga serie di capolavori ci lascia con un'unica domanda… cos'altro avrebbe potuto fare Chuck se avesse avuto l'opportunità di continuare?

Un grandissimo capolavoro death-metal.
La speranza di tutti è quella che da ‘lassù’ il grande Chuck continui a suonare la sua chitarra e continui a cantare death-metal, come solo lui sapeva fare.

L'apice si chiama proprio questo 'sound of perseverance' ed anche l'ultimo primo della morte di Chuck Schuldiner (rip).
Questo capolavoro è terminato e così si ferma la carriera dei Death... ci auguriamo che Chuck continui a suonare la sua chitarra dal paradiso.

The Sound Of Perseverance è il miglior album della storia del metal.
Voice Of The Soul è un gioiello strumentale che nessuno, nemmeno il più estremo degli ascoltatori di dance, troverà brutto o inascoltabile.

Ogni singolo brano riesce a trasudare sentimenti da ogni nota e soprattutto dalla voce di Chuck, un vero monumento dell’heavy metal.
