E chi se lo sarebbe mai aspettato!!!
Stupore, soddisfazione, carica ed energia, sono le sensazioni e le giuste, ma semplici parole per definire l'ultimo lavoro della band Heavy Metal più famosa e apprezzata dagli HeadBangers di tutto il mondo.
"A Matter Of Life And Death" è la comferma che gli Iron Maiden sono come il vino, più passano gli anni e più troviamo un prodotto stupendo e meraviglioso. Un disco davvero eccezzionale vista l'età dei componenti della band che, continuando a seguire la scia di album precedenti come "Powerslave" del lontano 1984, non smettono di accostare tematiche forti, ad Artwork davvero belli e dettagliati, anche se un pò tutti sentiamo la mancanza di quel Derek Riggs ke tanto ci aveva fatto amare e conoscere Eddie nei suoi primi anni di "vita"!!
Se passiamo all'ascolto di questo album, veniamo subito catapultati in un vortice di energia e di speranza con "Different World", una canzone potente se andiamo sopratutto a sottolineare il magistrale assolo di Adrian Smith, che da più di 10 anni ha dato il via alla sua vena artistica attraverso assoli e testi davvero eccellenti. E chi meglio saprebbe descrivere la sensazioni e i pensieri di un soldato e racchiuderle in una canzone. "These Colours Don't Run" ne è la prova che i Maiden sanno fare bene anke questo. Scorrendo tra le tracce, troviamo "The Pilgrim", con un attacco davvero piacevole e "allegrotto" sino ad arrivare alla traccia, secondo me, più bella di quest'album, "The Longest Day". Una canzone da brivido, con un Bruce Dickinson davvero mostruoso, tono di voce giovanile e una potenza risalente ai tempi della "Air Raid Siren" come tempo fà veniva chiamato. La traccia 7, ovvero il primo estratto che è stato presentato al pubblico prima dell'uscita dell'album, ovvero "The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg" si presenta in maniera ottima all'udito di un vero HeadBanger. La storia, le preghiere, e le speranze di un soldato rumeno scoparso durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Proprio su punto di morte, questo tizio rivela ad un spirito la sue paure e, come già detto in precedenza, le speranze nella vita che ha vissuto e che ora sta perdendo. Scorrendo, l'album conclude con "The Legacy", una canzone inizialmente acustica che rivela la bravura, la maestria e la serietà spesso nascosta di Janick Gers. Il simpaticissimo chitarrista,spesso alle prese con scenette assieme al drummer Nicko MC Brain, pubblica una canzone ottima, adagiata su ritmi lenti ma decisi.
Cosiglio vivamente l'acquisto di questo album per la vera e pura bellezza e naturalmente, riferendomi agli appassionati dei Maiden come me, consiglio il concentrato ascolto per far rimangiare la famose parole che i Maiden, ormai , non sono più all'altezza.

È un brano compatto, sulla linea dei recenti pezzi che la band ha confezionato e presenta un perfido groove 7/8!
Io penso che sia un album ineccepibile per la produzione, la tecnica e per la prestazione vocale di Bruce ma lo trovo un pò dispersivo e prolisso.

I Maiden hanno smesso di recitare la parte degli Irons canonizzati per essere qualcosa di coerente ma completamente diverso al contempo.
Un brano che racchiude la potenza di un calcio nello stomaco e la delicatezza di un fiore di montagna, brillante, più di mille soli.

Signori, the beast is back, e nonostante l'età è anche piuttosto arrabbiata ed in forma!!

È un disco.. che potrei definire difficile rispetto ai due precedenti, ricco di sperimentazioni e di pathos.
Un disco da comprare e da sentire con calma per apprezzarlo, poco da fare.
