Iron maiden: recensire un lavoro di una band con questo nome è più di un impresa, soprattutto contando che è la mia prima esperienza di questo genere. Ho letto diverse recensioni su questo disco gia presenti su debaser, e, ok che "de gustibus non disputandum est" ma spesso un po' di obiettività o almeno un pizzico di chiarezza è necessaria, soprattuto se un prodotto come questa recensione è destinato ad essere letto per avere un idea di ciò che si sta parlando.
Ma bando alle ciancie; eravamo rimasti al 2003 se no sbaglio con 'dance of death', disco che aveva diviso, giudicato un tantino mediocre a livello compositivo rispetto ai capolavori passati; un disco che sinceramente a me era piaciuto non poco cosi' come questo nuovo 'AMOLAD'. Sinceramente tutto il suond e i lavori post reunion con Bruce mi sono piaciuti da impazzire, specialmente per l'impronta groovy e il sound pulito e quadrato che la band ha acquistato. L'evoluzione si nota comunque, e nuove strade si sono aperte per i maiden del 2000 che dimostrano ora più che mai da quando hanno riformato questa line up di poter rimanere freschi e innovativi pur essendo al loro 14 lavoro.
È un disco.. che potrei definire difficile rispetto ai due precedenti, ricco di sperimentazioni e di pathos, dal suond che mi riporta più che vagamente al periodo "somewhere in time" e "seventh son of a seventh son". Un disco che diversamente da DOD per esempio non prende al primo ascolto, non è totalmente immediato ma che si scopre dopo diversi ascolti. Track per track credo che riuscirò melgio a spiegare quel che intendo
1- Different world: Per chi ha amato e ama i maiden di dance una perla destinata a far strage sotto il palco. Un pezzo che più maiden non si può avrei detto se fossi rimasto al penultimo disco. Riff e refrain immediati, struttura semplice. Un paragone? Wildest dreams. Voto 7
2- These colors dont run: Gia dalla seconda track comincia a cambiare tutto, un intro prima dell esplosione, refrain da gridare a squarciagola, assolo, melodia e coro. Un bel pezzo Voto 8
3- Brighter than a thousand suns: Brano strano, che alterna strofa in tempo dispari (7/4) al ritornello e bridge in canonico 4/4. Epico, complesso, ben strutturato ma difficile ai primi ascolti, è un pezzo che si apprezza piano piano riscoprendolo poi forse come uno dei migliori dell intero lavoro. Appare forse poco maiden per chi è fermo ai passati lavori, ma si fa apprezzare veramente tanto alle orecchie preparate e attente Voto 8 1/2
4- The pilgrim: Altro brano piuttosto alla vecchia maniera, struttura lineare e melodie che riportano l'ascoltatore ad un incrocio tra revelation/powerslave. Bel pezzo ma che in confronto alla complessità dell album mi pare un poco scarno. Piacerà di più agli intrasigenti fan degli iron alla vecchia maniera Voto 7
5- The longest day: Definito da molti come il capolavoro dell album. Pezzo epico anche questo, aperto da un intro ritmata da steve; per la strofa molto the clansman. Divagazione strumentale molto suggestiva e melodie da chitarre liquide che non deludono. Ottimo l'arrangiamento di batteria per il mio parere Voto 8
6- Out of the shadows: Ballata stupenda; niente heavy metal qui, soluzioni morbide per 5: 36 di track che non deludono. Per chiarirci una sorta di wasting love addolcita nelle parti cantate e ben gestita nella sezione strumentale. Voto 8
7- The reincarnation of benjamin breeg: Pezzo ricco di atmosfera, il primo singolo del disco. Da solo non mi aveva entusiasmato più di tanto, ma inserito nel contesto del album la gemma sboccia in quella che si rivela essere una vera rosa nera. I maiden lavorano su una struttura statica trascinati da un Nicko che nella sua semplicità arrangia e tira da paura. Testo da brivido (o almeno questo è l'effetto che a me fa). 7 minuti di track che non riserva molte soprese ma che si fa apprezzare per le linee vocali azzeccatissime e da una parte strumentale che trascina rimanendo in testa indelebile. Voto 8+
8- For the greater good of god: Capolavoro del disco, testo fantastico, quasi commovente a tratti. Aperto anche questo da un intro, epicissimo, complesso ma di facile compresione. La traccia più lunga del disco (9.24) passa ad una parte strumentale che forse è la più significativa e variegata dell intero lavoro. Ricorda forse a tratti the sign of the cross per l'atmosfera che crea in certi punti, anche se le melodie si alternano, le sensazioni mutano rapide. Un pezzo valido, pieno di sonorità e dal suond "nuovo". Credo questo sia quello che meglio rappresenta i nuovi maiden Voto 8/9
9- Lord of light: Brano ben composto ed arrangiato ma che non è riuscito a colpirmi come gli altri, pur avendo tutti gli elementi per farlo: Refrain cantabile e strutture intricate in certi punti. Un pezzo che nel disco ci sta tutto, ma che forse meno cattura rispetto al resto del lavorovoto: 7-
10- The legacy: Ma sono i maiden? Eheh si anche se non si direbbe, un intro con chitarre acustiche dal sapore medievale che sembra uscito dalle brevi tracce narrative di "nightfall in middle earth dei guardian". Un pezzo complesso questo, dal suond atipico veramente, dove non sempre le varie parti sono coese come dovrebbero. Forse qualche ascolto mi farebbe bene per capirlo di più. Voto: N
Eccoci qua alla fine, forse sono stato molto prolisso ma ci tenevo a lasciare un lavoro approfondito per meglio permettere di capire e di farsi un idea. Ovviamente a me il disco è piaciuto, ma questo per il semplice motivo che qua ho trovato tutto quello di cui avevo bisogno: chitarre liquide e melodiche, refrain che ti si stampano in testa.... questi sono i maiden, c'è chi li accusa di mantenere sempre lo stesso sound e modo di arrangiare (e in questo disco emerge proprio il contrario), che chi ha detto "scontati..." (e anche qua, in AMOLAD si possono facilmente smontare la accuse). Un disco da comprare e da sentire con calma per apprezzarlo, poco da fare, e non si dia del ragazzino poser o pirletto a chi decide di comprare il disco e lo elogia, a me poco frega che sia metal, che sia un macigno di riff e cavalcate o che si possa scapocciare tutto il tempo; un disco è bello al di là di quello, è questo è un disco che suona terribilmente bene, non sarà forse uno dei capolavori, non eguaglierà il passato, ma è cmq qualcosa che mi mette la pelle d'oca ogni volta che poso il dischetto nel lettore.
Ascoltate e fatevene un opionione, non è 'Dance of death' anche se ne prosegue e ne sviluppa certi spunti. Ascoltate, ascoltate, ascoltate e aprite la mente. Up the irons. Dariogreat

È un brano compatto, sulla linea dei recenti pezzi che la band ha confezionato e presenta un perfido groove 7/8!
Io penso che sia un album ineccepibile per la produzione, la tecnica e per la prestazione vocale di Bruce ma lo trovo un pò dispersivo e prolisso.

I Maiden hanno smesso di recitare la parte degli Irons canonizzati per essere qualcosa di coerente ma completamente diverso al contempo.
Un brano che racchiude la potenza di un calcio nello stomaco e la delicatezza di un fiore di montagna, brillante, più di mille soli.

Gli Iron Maiden sono uno dei gruppi più sopravvalutati che l'intera scena 'metal' abbia mai avuto.
Il cd non è altro che un malriuscito esperimento di heavy 'melodic' metal incrociato con del prog di serie b.
