Mamma mia!!!! Non si può iniziare la recensione diversamente se l'opera in questione è "killers"!! Allora lo dico di nuovo: Mamma mia!!! Che rock!!!!
In questo album c'è l'essenza del sound degli Iron Maiden: la loro capacità unica di cambiare ritmo, di sterzate brusche, di essere trascinanti e trascinati!!!! Premesso che sto recensendo un album che non ha bisogno di nessuna parola ma solo di essere messo in suono, vorrei solo che qualcuno mi spiegasse o ci spiegasse quanta energia e quanta bellezza musicale c'è nel passaggio da "The ides of march"a "Wrathchild", pezzo mitologico, introdotto da alcune note di basso di Harris da mitologia greca. "Wrathchild", un lampo che squarcia l'oscurita, un incedere al passo del ghepardo in una stele oscura e affascinante. Seguono alcuni pezzi molto veloci come il travolgente "Murders in the rue morgue" e soprattutto il fantastico, irresistibile "Another Life", uno scatenato rock blindato da una performance vocale di D'Anno notevole. Dopo un inizio del genere sarebbe il caso, direbbe qualcuno, di tirare un attimo il fiato per la miseria! Macchè!! "Gengis Kahn" è mito, è caos che diventa armonia tra chitarre che sterzano improvvisamente e scenari da guerriglia antica. L'album potrebbe anche fermarsi qui!!! Resta nella seconda parte dell'album spazio per uno dei pezzi più belli e conosciuti delle Vergini di Ferro, l'autocelebrativa "Iron Maiden" ed una splendida "Killers".
Che dire.. il secondo album degli Iron Maiden è superlativo e la bellezza e la potenza di pezzi come "Wrathchild" e "Gengis Khan" oscura anche qualche pausa dell'album. L'essenza di questa musica è nella sua velocità e nel suo irresistibile intreccio tra le chitarre il basso e la voce di Di Anno, che in quest'album rende davvero bene, ma che non me ne voglia resta inferiore per carisma e potenza a Bruce Dickinson.
Chi ama gli Iron Maiden non può non amare quest'album che contiene a pieno il loro sound.

Attacco ogni essere vivente che ascolta questa merda.
Gruppi come i Maiden sono degli esseri amorfi, che si sono venduti al migliore offerente.

Il basso di Harris è molto presente e in questo disco alcuni suoi giri faranno la storia del rock duro.
Di’Anno grida selvaggiamente, schizofrenico, come l’omicida che impersona nella canzone.

Sin qui abbiamo sentito SOLO capolavori, ed in mezzo a questi capolavori, pezzi come Innocent Exile o Purgatory rientrano nella norma.
La title-track è un capolavoro della storia degli anni 80: no comment ragazzi.

Un intro che come tutta la canzone tiene un ritmo 'galoppante', che personalmente adoro.
