Secondo album per i Motley Crue, le quattro dannate puttane tornano sugli scaffali con un adrenalinico album di grandissimo hard rock quale è, e sarà, Shout at the Devil.
Poco importa se l'album venderà tantissimo, a noi piace ricordarlo per la scarica elettrica che la maggior parte dei brani conferisce all'ascoltatore grazie a veri portenti come la title-track, Looks At Kill, Red Hot e la cover beatlesiana di Helter Skelter.
Provocatori nell'attitudine, nella musica e nell'immagine (veri e propri guerrieri della notte), i Motley Crue nel futuro sapranno solo clonarsi, ma mai migliorarsi; ci lasceranno però questo album, uno dei lavori più selvaggi a conquistare le charts americane, prima di tutti gli split, i video hard ed i flop che il gruppo conoscerà negli anni a seguire (soprattutto nei novanta).
Mai una caduta di tono, grazie anche all'interpretazioni dei 4: Vince Neil con la sua acidula timbrica, Mick Mars preciso e mai sopra le righe, mentre giù il cappello di fronte alla sezione ritmica del duo Lee/Sixx, vero polmone del Crue-sound, la coppia non perde mai un colpo e, anche quando il ritmo diventa più blando (Too young to fall in love per esempio) rende sempre al massimo.
Un album che ormai è un classico a pieno merito, la band da qui in poi diverrà oggetto di paragone per chiunque voglia cimentarsi con l'hard rock ed il glam.
Testi espliciti e piccanti doppi sensi disturberanno non poco i perbenisti che etichetteranno il gruppo come tra i più osceni, da tenere lontano dai propri figli "oltre che essere duri sono pure sboccati", la band anni dopo risponderanno con "Girls, girls, girls", ma questa è un'altra storia ascoltiamoci questo lavoro sempreverde, facciamo le corna e su e giù con la testa!!!

Fanno Punk Metal con un po' di Glam i Motley, qualcosa che nessuno aveva mai fatto prima.
La produzione molto più curata canalizza la rabbia verso lidi più commerciali.

Questo lavoro si rivelerà non solo il loro più riuscito ma anche un album seminale per la scena Hair/Glam Metal Americana.
Si chiude così uno dei capitoli migliori della storia dei Motley Crue e del Glam metal in generale.
