Matthew Bellamy e soci al terzo appuntamento (escludendo la raccolta di live e b-sides) ci aspettano allo stesso punto. Non si muovono di un millimetro, ben lontani da pericolose sperimentazioni e anche da spunti compositivi banali.
La potenza del suono e dei testi è sempre su livelli alti e questa volta è ancor di più incitata dal clima plumbeo in cui versa la società.
Infatti il terrore crescente che percepiscono i Muse in questo periodo si è tutto riversato nelle loro composizioni e lo si avverte sin dall'introduzione all'album: una marcia cupa (tipo The Wall) preludio ad un giudizio universale (Apocalypse Please) tanto temuto quanto invocato.
Con il brano successivo, "Time Is Running Out", il primo singolo dell'album, continua l'onda d'urto.
Ma la rabbia mista a disperazione di Matthew sa anche incantare con ballate tipo "Sing For Absolution" in cui sembra scorgere uno spiraglio di luce e in "Falling Away With You" mentre sembra non esserci via d'uscita in "Stockholm Syndrom" il singolo venduto su Internet.
Gli arrangiamenti baroccheggianti e il falsetto tipico del leader questa volta sembrano ancora più presenti e infatti il piano fa da cornice al bisogno di redenzione in "Ruled By Secrecy".
"Absolution" è la terza tappa della parabola certamente ascendente del gruppo inglese sperando che questo non sia il vertice.

Matthew Bellamy sembra proprio essere in una forma strepitosa sia a livello vocale che strumentale.
Il genere che il trio ci propone è difficilmente definibile se non catalogando come un post-rock influenzato da qualche scheggia di metallo fuso.

La voce è quanto di più odioso e inconsistente si possa sentire al giorno d’oggi.

Un album povero di significato a partire dalla prima traccia 'Intro', che mostra quanto sia pretenzioso questo gruppo.
Peccato mille volte peccato: da loro ci saremmo aspettati molto di più, ma manca coerenza intellettuale.
