Esce nel 1994 il primo prodotto della band mancuniana. Guardiamo comunque la storia di questa band che cambiò per sempre la storia della musica inglese e che ancora adesso rimane una delle più amate in campo internazionale. Noel Gallagher è un ragazzo più o meno normale, a parte aver scaraventato un sacco di farina in testa al suo direttore, è un buon studente e suona in camera sua i suoi pezzi con la chitarra acustica. Liam Gallagher d'altra parte è uno scatenato teenager, rozzo, non curante delle regole, che ha una voce d'angelo ma pensa più alle ragazze e la calcio. Questi due ragazzi crescono nei sobborghi di Manchester, in mezzo alla droga, all'alchool e con un padre violento che torna a casa dai pub ubriaco e picchia la loro amata madre Peggy. Proprio per questo un giorno Noel Gallagher butterà giù dalle scale il padre Thomas, facendolo svenire. In un concerto degli Stone Roses del 1987 però il piccolo Gallagher apre gli occhi e si innamora della musica, e decide che sarebbe diventato una rock'n'roll star. Così un lontano giorno del 1991, durante una manifestazione, il bassista Paul McGuigan (Guigsy) propone a Liam di entrare a far parte della band "The Rain", composta allora da quest'ultimo, Paul McGuigan (Guigsy), il chitarrista Paul Arthurs (Bonehead) e il batterista Tony McCarroll. Liam allora accetta la proposta, e cambiato il nome del gruppo in "Oasis", inizia la sua scalata nel difficile mondo del rock'n'roll. La band purtroppo non ha il successo sperato. Liam iniziò a scrivere i suoi primi testi, ma senza l'effetto sperato. Noel Gallagher, sentitili una volta ad una loro esibizione li definisce una "MERDA".
Il fratello minore Liam a quel punto gli chiese di far parte del gruppo, e Noel accettò a patto di scrivere lui tutti i testi delle canzoni. Nacquerò allora gli Oasis. Siamo intorno al 1991/1992 e Noel inizia a comporre le sue prime opere (See The Sun, Color My Life, Better Let You Know, Life In Vain e tante altre) e il gruppo procede con la sua fase di evoluzione. Nel 1992 ci sono sicuramente due date importanti da ricordare: 15 Gennaio giorno del loro primo concerto al Boardwalk, e 12 Giugno, giorno in cui il quotidiano locale gli dedica un articolo, ma nonostante tutto ciò i cinque tracannatori di birra restano nell'anonimato. Il 1993 invece è l'anno della svolta, precisamente il 31 Maggio la band si esibisce in una competition per gruppi emergenti alla quale assiste anche il direttore (non quello di Noel) della Creation Record, che diventa così la prima casa discografica del gruppo. Il 23 Ottobre arriva la firma in bella calligrafia del contratto per 6 album. "Gli feci credere di avere già scritto una sessantina di canzoni, quando invece ne avevo più o meno dieci, e loro abboccarono" affermò nel 2002 il chitarrista Noel. Mancava solo un passo per portare alla gloria questi giovani inglesi: l'incisione del primo album!
Questo è un LP da avere e custodire gelosamente, una vera e propria perla musicale che anche amanti del metal come la maggior parte di voi utenti di DeBaser dovrebbe collezionare. Insomma questa è una gemma, una opera inimitabile, che ha segnato la storia della musica, che ha venduto addirrittura più di "Revolver", disco dei Beatles. Il CD parte subito alla grande e si apre con "Rock'n'Roll Star", un vero e proprio inno alla voglia di farcela, una song energica e sprizzante gioia, usata la maggior parte delle volte come apertura o chiusura dei concerti. "Toniiiight I'm A Rooock'n'Rooool Staaaar!!!!" urla Liam Gallagher, le sensazioni che questa track dona non ha eguali. Con la track successiva però troviamo il primo "buco", il primo "passo falso"del CD. "Shakermaker" è una canzone piuttosto noiosa e ripetitiva, la prima poi accusata di plagio per la notevole somiglianza con la colonna sonora della pubblicità della bevanda Coca-Cola. Ma l'idea di Noel di intonare la song cantando "Now I Only Drinks Pepsi" è strabiliante quanto offensiva. Signori e signore vi presento la canzone simbolo degli Oasis, quella che secondo un recente sondaggio è la canzone più amata dai fans della band, "Live Forever". Un'ovazione per una track inimitabile, eterna, scritta da "The Chief" Noel Gallagher in ospedale quando si ruppe un piede per la amata madre Peggy. Oltre ad essere stata scritta per la signora Gallagher, questa song fu stata creata anche per i "Grandi" della musica e le persone che in qualche modo "vivranno per sempre". Dal 1995 al 2000, durante l'esecuzione di questo assoluto capolavoro, sul palco scorrevano le immagini di queste persone. Foto finale: John Lennon! Per l'appunto sul CD del singolo è raffigurata l'immagine della casa della nonna dove crebbe il mitico John. Nel video si vede il batterista Tony McCarroll venire sepolto dagli altri componenti della band come per annunciare l'abbandono di quest'ultimo.
"Up In The Sky" è una canzone molto energica e rock, e spesso veniva eseguita insieme "Round Are Way" come fossero un'unica canzone. "Columbia" è una buona canzone ma nulla di più, scritta da Liam. Poi però troviamo il mitico singolo "Supersonic", primo in assoluto pubblicato dalla band. Il video è girato su un tetto come fecero i Beatles con "Let It Be". La "Girl called Elsa" non è altro che un cane che si aggirava per gli studi di registrazione. Niente da dire su "Bring It On Down", sempliciotta ma ascoltabile rispetto invece a "Cigarettes And Alcohol", inno alla droga, alle sigarette e all'alcohol. Altra accusa di plagio per il riff della chitarra un po' troppo simile a quello di una canzone dei T-Rex. "Digsy's Dinner" e "Slide Away" sono due canzoni molto rock e piacevoli, e un commento lo merita di certo anche la bella "Married With Children", canzone acustica dove le corde vocali di Liam si fanno sentire. "Your Music Shite" è una frase detta dalla ex di Noel duranta un loro litigio. Insomma un disco d'oro, stupendo, che rimarrà la storia. A tutti quelli che odiano gli Oasis dico: "I gusti sono gusti, ma come disse Noel un mese fa: neanche i Beatles, gli Stone Roses e i Rolling Stones sarebbero riusciti a fare un CD d'esordio del genere. "Ed ha ragione!ROCK'N'ROLL!!!!

Noel Gallagher ci aveva avvertito, gli Oasis non sono innovatori, vogliono solo colpirti con canzoni semplici che sono instant classic.
Live Forever è un vero inno alla vita, per chi cerca di realizzare qualcosa di eccezionale e vivere così per sempre.

Sì, è ascoltabile, ma non è certo un cd “intramontabile” o un “capolavoro” come ho sentito dire da alcuni.
Se un album non piace, bisogna scartarlo e dedicarsi ad un altro, mi sembra inutile insistere!

La prima canzone è "Rock'N'Roll Star", pezzo storico degli Oasis, che porta una gran bella scarica di adrenalina.
Un'altra canzone aggressiva è "Cigarettes & Alcohol", strapiena di riferimenti alla droga, ma da ascoltare comunque tranquillamente.

Live Forever: una gran canzone che divenne il vero e proprio inno di una generazione.
Se la prima si perde in accordi un po’ troppo azzardati, la seconda annoia con la sua eccessiva mielosità.
