Compratevi questo The Divine Wings Of Tragedy dei Symphony X e capirete cosa sono i Dream Theater: delle mezze seghe!
Questo è vero progressive metal, ovvero un bel miscuglio di tante belle cose. Si trova il Thrash alla Pantera (esplicativa a questo proposito la prima traccia, Of Sins And Shadows), il power-speed di Out Of The Shadows, le chiare influenze classico-sinfoniche e quelle neoclassiche.
Si trova una canzone di 20 minuti e passa che, udite udite, NON ANNOIA E NON VI FA CADERE LE PALLE A TERRA DOPO DUE MINUTI, come quelle dei Dream Theater. Si trova un chitarrista che Petrucci in confronto è il figlio del vostro vicino che sta cercando disperatamente di fare Smells Like Teen Spirit, e un tastierista che sembra abbia tre mani date le cose che fa.
E finalmente un cantante tecnico, aggressivo e incazzato, non come quel barile di LaBrie, chiaramente uomo per sbaglio. Ora non posso paragonare Jason Rullo, che comunque è una bestia, con Mike Portnoy oThomas Miller a quel pirla di Myung, però entrambi sono bravi, hanno un feeling spaventoso e li preferisco ai due sopraccitati dei.
Compratevi questo cd e capirete che i Dream Theater non sono i migliori.
Vorrei inoltre sottolineare la bravura di Michael Romeo, forse il miglior chitarrista metal al mondo, da orgasmo le scale in tapping (tra l'altro la sua chitarra ha un suono stupendo; armonizzatori, wah e amenità varie lo rendono taglientissimo ma allo stesso tempo bello saturo) e fare una piccola considerazione finale: qui non è tanto la bravura che vince ma la capacità di scrivere canzoni appassionanti che non siano solo una lezione di chitarra.
Fate headbanging ascoltando i Dream? Io no. Con questi lo farete.
