The Gathering sono una band olandese formata nel 1989 dai fratelli Hans e René Rutten. Dagli esordi doom/death con voce maschile passano al gothic/doom con l’arrivo di Anneke van Giersbergen (Mandylion, Nighttime Birds) e poi a territori psichedelici e trip rock (How to Measure a Planet?, Souvenirs). Dal 2009 la voce è di Silje Wergeland. Hanno fondato la loro etichetta Psychonaut Records dopo l’addio a Century Media.
