Il terzo capitolo della band americana risulta più ambizioso, sia dal punto di vista musicale che visivo!
Infatti, la sezione ritmica della band risulta migliorata parecchio anche se le novità dal punto di vista strutturale ce ne sono poche. Questa volta sono presenti 14 canzoni, ma alla fine ci si può anche stancare: nella prima metà sono presenti a mio avviso le migliori canzoni che la band abbia mai scritto ("You Only Live Once", "Heart in a Cage", "Vision of Division" e "Ask Me Anything") mentre nella seconda parte si possono fare sonni tranquilli (l'unica a coinvolgere l'ascoltatore potrebbe essere "Fear of Sleep").
Sicuramente questo lavoro è migliore del precedente, anche se rimane pur sempre sufficiente, forse perchè non è genuino come "Is This It". Casablancas e Moretti sonno una spassa più in alto e quell'assolo di Albert Hammond Jr in "Vision of Division" può far salvare la faccia alla band.
Alla fine niente di nuovo: 3 canzoni in più, qualche miglioria di tecnica, un disco visibilmente più patinato... ma in fondo non è proprio quello che ci si aspetta. Questo fa pensare che i The Strokes abbiano dei limiti abbastanza grossi dal punto di vista creativo.
L'album si può tranquillamente comprare, anche se a questo punto ci si aspetterebbe un pò più di originalità. Bravi nei live ma poco ingegnosi in studio!

L’impressione è che non ci troviamo nella piacevole gabbia labirintia vocale delle canzoni di Room On Fire.
Il 4 è per la passione che ho per questo gruppo la cui sfacciatagine è esibita in maniera tale che non può non essere considerata elegante.

La voce di Julian, che tanto mi aveva colpito, è a tratti noiosissima e marca i suoi limiti.
Se proprio si deve fare un disco così per variare, meglio i cari Strokes di una volta.
