Black Sabbath, una delle più grandi band di tutti i tempi, coloro che fondarono l'attuale musica Metal, tecnicamente eccelsi, sono entrati nell'olimpo della musica in seguito a capolavori del livello di "Paranoid" ed "Heaven And Hell". Ed ecco che gli attualmente intoccabili Sabbath il 13 Febbraio 1970 si presentano all'Inghilterra con un capolavoro: "Black Sabbath", l'album da cui iniziò tutto, album che parla apertamente di tematiche oscure de esoteriche, l'album che diede inizio al Metal.
"Black Sabbath": La track inizia con dei sinistri rintocchi di campane e come se non bastasse una scrosciante pioggia di sottofondo rende il tutto molto più oscuro e horror, inizio strumentale molto pesante, Ozzy Osbourne inizia a cantare molto lentamente, esplosione musicale veramente hard che si riaquieta per lasciare ancora una volta spazio al singer, verso la fine diventa tutto veloce e frenetico con un Tony Iommi che dimostra da subito di saper macinare riff come pochialtri nella storia del rock. Oscura e potente è veramente una perla.
"The Wizard": Qua le influenze e gli innesti blues si fanno sentire con un Ozzy Osbourne che scandisce un ottimo intro con l'armonica, i riffoni sabbathiani si fanno sentire da subito, se il testo precedente parlava di oscure visioni questo parla di un mago che combatte i demoni, canzoni veramente bella, anche migliore della precedente.
"Behind The Wall Of Sleep": Iommi e Ward in primo, infatti di questo brano si apprezzano tantissimo chitarra e batteria, ispirato ad un racconto di H. P. Lovecraft, è sicuramente una track validissima dove l'assolo di Iommi è pura magia (nera naturalmente).
"NIB" : Mr. Geezer Butler ci regala un ottimo intro di basso, la batteria è veramente molto particolare e riesce a scandire ottimamente il ritmo di un ottima track quale questa, da segnalare l'ennesimo capolavoro di Tony Iommi alla chitarra, assolo da sogno, anche come musicalità il pezzo è molto bello.
"Evil Woman": Non parlerò molto di questa canzone in quanto era una cover dei Crow, comunque segnalo il lavoro al basso ed anche l'orecchiabilità del ritornello.
"Sleeping Village": Pezzo da 10 e lode, ci sono all'interno un ottimo uso di chitarre acustiche, la batteria poi fa miracoli, inutile ripetere ancora una volta l' eccezionale bravura di Iommi che dimostra di fare insieme a Ward un accoppiata pazzesca.
"The Warning" : Brano per la maggior parte del tempo strumentale, è pieno di cambi di tempo improvvisi, armonie jazzate e innesti blues lo rendono bellissimo e mettono in mostra le capacità tecniche del Sabba Nero.
"Wicked World": Brano che mette per l'ennesima volta in mostra la bravura dei 4 e la perfetta accoppiata batteria chitarra (scusate le ripetizione ma mentre scrivo la rec sto ascoltando quest'album e l'accoppiata Ward\Iommi mi lascia senza parole), assolo mozzafiatante e finale tiratissimo, fu uno dei primi successi della band.
Ho dato 4 a quest'album perchè per quanto possa essere definito un capolavoro e per quanto sia tecnicamente eccelso non riuscirà a raggiungere il livello (sempre tecnico) dei lavori successivi, comunque consiglio di comprarlo sia agli appassionati di rock che a quelli di metal e chi ha comunque voglia di ascoltare degli strumentisti eccezzionali.

Un suono lento, pesante e cadenzato non fa paura. Mette ansia, che è qualcosa di peggio.
Black Sabbath si presenta semplice quanto inquietante, parte lenta per poi esplodere in un finale convulso.

I Black Sabbath sono stati associati troppe volte alla parola metal. Niente di più sbagliato.
È uno dei migliori della loro intera discografia, un album che ha segnato la storia della musica.

Signore e signori, è nato l’hard rock nero, e sono state gettate le basi per tutto il dark sound degli anni a venire.
La potenza evocativa di tre singole note è stupefacente: la fondamentale doppiata all’ottava e la quinta diminuita, combo nota come "intervallo del diavolo".

Una certa aura maledetta si sprigioni dai solchi dell'opera.
Fa un certo effetto riascoltare un lp edito nel lontano 1970, dotato di un sottile fascino e di una certa importanza storica.
