Su DeBaser sto gruppo è sconosciuto e penso che lo sia anche in tutta Italia. Finora non ho mai visto una band tanto sfortunata come i Breaking Benjamin in termini di vendite e popolarità nonostante la loro sia una proposta decente perchè i loro primi due album "Saturate"(2002) e "We Are Not Alone"(2004) sono dei buoni esempi di un post-grunge molto più espressivo di quello dei Nickelback (al contrario i Nickelback fanno i miliardi e questi tra un po' vanno in mezzo ad una strada) e questa ultima realese si fa ascoltare anche di più delle precedenti perché hanno imbastardito il loro sound con un po' di alternative metal sulla scia dei ritmi Korn e dei riff dei Tool, tuttavia, anche se il suono è stato incattivito, i punti di riferimento sono sempre quelli e sono Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots e Pearl Jam.
Ad aprire il disco c'è un buon "Intro" psichedelico e misterioso che lascia spazio alla vera chicca e capolavoro dell'album ovvero "The Diary Of Jane", buon crossover tra l'alternative rock, una certa voce pop rock e una seconda voce più brutale e simil-nu metal, riff che porta tutta la canzone davvero bello, batteria ben suonata, oltre che orecchiabile davvero bella soprattutto musicalmente. Un decente brano di post-rock è "Breath" che rivela le già citate e chiare ispirazioni del gruppo, voce melodica, come quasi in tutto l'album. Scontatissimo pezzo di rock commerciale è "You", il meno originale delle 14 tracce. Altra punta di "Phobia" è "Evil Angel" che ritorna sul discorso dell'indurimento del sound, riff iniziale corposo, ma voce troppo debole e melodica per lo spessore delle chitarre, però ascoltabile e ben strutturata tra melodia imperante e trattenuta rabbia. Odore dell'alternative metal anche in "Untile The End", che ha la struttura melodica uguale a "Evil Angel", ma si perde in un ritornello pop-rock che si conclude con un growl insensato. Vengono risuscitati le ballate alla Pearl Jam con "Dance With The Devil", anche se farcite da un riff iniziale Tooliano.
Si copiano i Korn di "Blind" con "Topless", il riff principale è praticamente uguale alla famosa canzone del gruppo di Bakersfield, il resto della canzone è ripetitiva, dopo un po' fa addormentare. Altra balata semi-acustica in pieno stile post-rock contaminato dal pop è "Here We Are", anche questa noiosa. Si riprende un po' di potenza con "Unknown Soldier", anche qui post-grunge che deve molto a Stone Temple Pilots, Staind e Live, di nuovo i BB si fanno "heavy" con "Had Enough", riff buono e canzone compatta, anche il cantante se la cava bene, sempre cantando su linee melodiche. Nu rock sfacciato è "You Fight Me" e a tratti ricordano i Limp Bizkit nei momenti meno rap di "Results may vary". Si conclude con l'"Outro", che riprende in parte il riffetto-base dell' "Intro", ma ha anche variazioni che portano la durata del pezzo a 2.06 minuti. La "bonus" track è un'alternative version di "The Diary of Jane", il cantante sfodera un canto pulitissimo e ultra-melodico accompagnato da pianoforte e archi, caruccia.
Un mio amico mi ha consigliato di darci un'occhiata a sti Breaking Benjamin e al primo ascolto il disco è di quelli che prendono e sono "frizzanti e allegri", però poi si capisce che c'è ancora l'inesperienza nel gruppo, perché ci sono molte influenze, dichiarate (Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots) e non (Korn e Bizkit ma soprattutto Tool), che fanno un po' a cazzotti tra loro, tuttavia anche se assemblate male, le idee ci sono e sono buone, perciò raggiungono una sufficienza piena, ma non di più.

Il primo singolo, "The Diary Of Jane", parla di una relazione di amore-odio; resta una canzone abbastanza scontata, ma è decisamente ben fatta.
È il classico album che si lascia ascoltare molto piacevolmente le prime due/tre volte; poi la monotonia generale fa venire la voglia di sentire altro.
