Mancano cinque giorni all'uscita del tanto atteso Systematic Chaos. Ma avendolo già ascoltato ho l'oppurtunità di potervene parlare in anteprima. Non mi soffermerò molto sulle canzoni perchè personalmente penso che ci vogliono molti ascolti per conoscere un'album, soprattutto un'album dei Dream Theater. Molte persone storceranno il naso a questo lavoro, ne sono sicuro, ma non è un' album da buttare.
Il CD è composto da otto canzoni. Si inizia con "In The Presence Of Enemies Part 1". Nove minuti straordinari di grande musica, tecnica, velocità... Insomma Dream Theater. Dopo 5 minuti e 13 secondi arriva il cantato straordinario di James Labrie che in questa canzone come in tutte le altre ha una voce molto accattivante. La canzone termina con un grande assolo di John Petrucci e poi un suono, molto simile ad un fruscio di vento, dove è facile intuire che la canzone non è ancora terminata. "Forsaken" è la seconda traccia ed inizia con un intro di Jordan Rudess da far venire i brividi, e poi la chitarra molto aggressiva di John Petrucci. Ritornello molto memorabile ma comunque una bella canzone. La terza traccia è il primo singolo estratto dall'album "Constant Motion". Tutto e ripeto tutto ricorda i Metallica, dalla chitarra alla batteria e soprattutto il cantato di LaBrie che imita l'altro James quello dei Metallica di "Blackened". Per molti sarà una scopiazzatura, ma onestamente non ci trovo niente di male nel rendere omaggio ad un'altra band. "The Dark Eternal Night" inizia in maniera devastante. Chitarra distorta e doppia grancassa da far paura. Il cantato iniziale e caratterizzato da alcuni effetti sia sulla voce di James LaBrie che su quella di Mike Portnoy. Sicuramente vi verrà in mente un qualcosa che avrete già sentito quando ascoltere la quinta traccia "Repentance". Perchè inizia con la stessa parte iniziale di "This Dying Soul" e con la stessa frase iniziale: "Hello mirror, so glaad to see you my friend..." E poi inizia la song vera e propria che vi delizierà per 10 minuti e 44 secondi. "Prophets Of War" è un vero e proprio inno contro la guerra. Inizia stile Pink Floyd accompagnato dalla voce sottile e calma di LaBrie. La canzone scoppia con un bel riff di John Petrucci. Anche qui una canzone molto semplice con un ritornello che ti rimane subito in testa. La settima traccia è un qualcosa di meraviglioso: "The Ministry of Lost Souls". 14 minuti e 47 secondi che vi faranno rimanere a bocca aperta. Canzone che parte in maniera dolce con la chitarra di Petrucci che accompagna la voce di James per poi esplodere nel progressive vero e proprio caratterizzato ovviamente dagli assoli di tastiera e chitarra. Siamo all'ultima traccia che si ricollega alla prima: "In The Presence Of Enemies Part 2" che insieme formano una suite di 25 minuti. Questa canzone come era ovvio immaginare inizia così come era terminata la prima parte con quel fruscio di vento questa volta accompagnato dal basso di John Myung che ricorda molto i Pink Floyd. Canzone stupenda, non sò veramente come descriveverla. Musicalità, velocità, tecnica da vendere. Bello il finale dove tutti gli strumenti sembrano esplodere per l'ultima nota invece... silenzio. Dopo pochi istanti si sentono arrivare i piatti di Mike, poi la doppia grancassa, la tastiera, la chitarra e il basso fino a scoppiare con un velocissimo giro di tom da parte di Mike Portnoy. Non è una cosa facile da spiegare.
Se devo essere sincero mi aspettavo qualcosa di più ma va bene comunque. Sono sicuro che a molti quest' album non piacerà ma io vi prego di ascoltarlo più di una volta, con attenzione. L'album uscirà il primo giugno, in due edizioni. Quello standard e l' edizione speciale con il DVD, dove ci sarà l'intero album mixato in 5.1 e un documentario sulla nascita di Systematic Chaos diretto da Mike Portnoy.

Questo disco rappresenta tutte quelle cose che sono fondamentalmente sbagliate nel genre prog-metal.
Systematic Chaos è uno dei lavori meno validi mai fatti in ambito metal.

Il gruppo non fa altro che modificare leggermente i brani già scritti in passato.
Questo album è già un forte segnale di questo fatto, perciò siate onesti, non gridate al capolavoro.

Sorprendente
Questa canzone si articola tendenzialmente in due parti, la prima più lenta e struggente mentre la seconda più incalzante e tecnicamente eccellente.

Il Teatro Dei Sogni rappresenta il non plus ultra della mediocrità e della totale nullità artistica fatta Rock.
Un vero e proprio 'systematic chaos' insomma.
