Musica per cadere nel più dolce dei sogni.
Trattasi di disco angelico.
Ogni brano si porta dietro un carico notevole di elettronica elegante, mai eccessiva e sempre coinvolgente in ogni singolo beat.
Una linea in rilievo di low-fi traccia il confine tra accessi pop e brani più contorti e diagonali fino a toccare le atmosfere chill out più rilassanti, per poi fuggire velocemente.
La mano influente dei Notwist si sente eccome, specie in brani come Nin-Com-Pop, dove la voce femminile fatta di vento sembra modellarsi come creta su ogni cambio di melodia.
O come in Middle Curse, dove sporchi rumori di feedback elettronici fanno sembrare quasi che il disco salti nel lettore, proprio come l’effetto iniziale di Pick Up The Phone in Neon Golden.
Certo i risultati di album del calibro di Shrink o Neon Golden, appunto, sono distanti, ma, a pensarci bene, neanche troppo lontani.
Il suono del disco è prettamente polveroso, apparentemente freddo e distaccato.
Poi, più lo si ascolta e più ci si accorge che è il lento processo di questo tipo d’elettronica che richiede un po’ di tempo per penetrare fin dentro la colonna vertebrale.
Non si tratta di distacco ma di lenta ipnosi.
E mentre la polvere di fondo rimane, la mente è già rapita dal suono di atmosfere analogiche, che sembrano rovinate dalla candeggina, ed è proiettata verso il tasto repeat all.
