Il sodalizio/connubio Black Eyed Peas/David Guetta pare essere non solo riconfermato, ma addirittura rinvigorito. Galeotte saranno le vendite strabilianti del precedente The E.N.D. e della carrellata di singoli da esso estratto, sarà che il trend della Dance Elettronica sia risultato più che positivo e deciso a prevalere sugli altri sounds, sta di fatto che i BEP, ispirati dal Funk/Hip Hop/ R&B di Where Is The Love e My Humps , hanno subito una graduale metamorfosi verso le "truzzate" discotecare. Truzzate che peraltro vanno alla grande: gli Stati Uniti hanno confermato al 100% il loro amore verso la band, l'Europa segue di pari passo tale voga.
Eh, si. Guetta e i suoi amichetti Dj (Ammo in primis) hanno decisamente "montato la testa" ai Peas, i quali, non sazi dei planetari consensi ricevuti, intendono riproporre in modalità corretta e aggiornata sounds elettronici/Dance, tralasciando ancora per il momento le loro meno tamarre radici musicali. The Beginning può essere riassunto come segue: un mix di brani iper-mega danzerecci, frivoli, contraddistinto da repentini cambi di sounds all'interno delle singole tracce. Fino a qui le differenze con The E.N.D. risultano minime o quasi nulle. Ciò che permette una abbastanza marcata separazione con quest'ultimo è insito nei numerosi scopiazzamenti e/o riproposizioni della tradizione Disco anni '70 e '80 all'interno di alcuni brani, l'utilizzo pervasivo dell'auto-tune atto a distorcere le tonalità vocali, la palese prevalenza di will.i.am e della bella Fergie sui restanti membri della band (apl.de.ap e Taboo), qui performers secondari, infine, in alcune canzoni, la virata verso beat elettronici meno "pesanti".
La prima carrellata di brani è decisamente orientata ad un elogio/tributo nei confronti della Disco Dance '70/ '80, la stessa che sposa questi sounds con l'attuale Elettronica: Love You Long Time ne rappresenta l'esempio più lungimirante, brano che scopiazza palesemente i ritmi discotecari di 25-30 anni fa riadattati modernamente con l'ausilio dell'auto-tune che quasi completamente distorce le voci di will.i.am e Fergie. Someday è una ballabilissa traccia alla Bob Sinclar, Whenever unisce il mood tranquillo, spensierato frivolo ed estivo di una chitarra a sottofondo dell'innocente Fergie, con un sound club guettiano. Ma veniamo ai sample Disco Dance utilizzati dai BEP: il primo estratto The Time (Dirty Bit) include in una simpatica truzzata Elettro-Dance, già impazzante nei club, la celeberrima (I've Had) The Time Of My Life, performata da Bill Medley e Jennifer Warnes per Dirty Dancing; la pulsante e coinvolgente Fashion Beats include in un contesto da Saturday Night Fever la hit dei Chic My Forbidden Lover. Insomma, un'ottima (oppure pessima) sorpresa per i nostalgici dei pantaloni a zampa bianchi alla John Travolta.
Successivamente a queste tracce, si ritorna repentinamente all'atmosfera di The E.N.D, ultra clubbesca e coinvolgente. Do It Like This è una Imma Be più elettronica e distorta, la quale verso il terzo minuto, anticipata da una pesantissima scarica elettronica, vira verso un Hip Hop iper dancereccio, lo stesso che rappresenta il perfetto background di Don't Stop The Party e The Coming. Mentre The Situation si fa più rockeggiante, con una Fergie graffiante e incazzosa, Own It vede l'assopimento momentaneo dei beat house a favore di un Hip Hop "militaresco". La particolare Just Can't Get Enough alterna un Hip/Hop - R&B tradizionale e melodico con un finale decisamente elettronico da club. Il citato mix Elettro-Dance/ Hip Hop/R&B è menzionabile anche a riguardo di The Best One Yet (The Boy).
The Beginning, scontato ribadirlo, è concepito come il seguito ideale del precedente The E.N.D. (pure i titoli suggeriscono una antitetica prosecuzione tra i due lavori in studio). Gli attributi affermabili all'uopo dell'ultimo lavoro riguardano sicuramente un contesto iper-discotecaro, elettronico, indirizzato alle "new generations" conclamate dai stessi BEP. E fin qui, nulla di biasimevole. La qualità generale è tuttavia, seppur mediamente, compromessa dall'onnipervasività dell'auto-tune, della predominanza vocale will.i.am - Fergie, a sfavore dei restanti due membri, dell'inserimento, seppur simpatico, di grandi successi della Disco Dance in contesti truzzi e tamarri. Occorre, poi, da parte degli stessi Peas un recupero della tradizione Hip-Hop, Funk e R&B, meno clubbesca, ma più coerente alla loro immagine, la stessa che vede oggi il gruppo abbigliato extra-stravagante, quasi "robotico". Per chi ama la pista da ballo, i lustrini, le feste modaiole, il mondo dei club, questo è comunque l'album ideale per la sua playlist.
