(attenti che su quest'album ci scriverò parecchio... soprattutto su pippe mentali filosofiche)
Inizio col dire che nel 1993 vedo una classifica simile a questa:
"Focus"
"Elements"
"ITP" (abbreviato "individual thought patterns")
"Spheres"
Poi vi dico anche che per me questi album mi stanno quasi sullo stesso livello e che in fondo tra una posizione e l'altra della classifica c'è pochissima differenza..poi vi dico anche che tutti questi album mi girano sul 7 chi un centesimo in più chi un centesimo in meno
Mo parto
Tenete sempre in mente la scaletta (senza le ministrumentali):
-"Green"
-"Water"
-"Air"
-"Animal"
-"Mineral"
-"Fire"
-"Earth"
-"Elements"
Inizio col dire che insieme a "Focus" è l'album in cui sento più influenze "jazz". La chitarra al contrario dei suoi predecessori si basa molto meno sulle plettrate ripetute e un po' più su riff in stile "Symbolic". Non so se ho reso l'idea... la voce è un po' cambiata infatti si sentono ben 2 voci e poi soprattutto la voce è molto più incarnata e mi rende molto meno l'idea di "Reign In Bloom"... la batteria però non è poi così cambiata anche se noto piccolissimi miglioramenti, come l'alleggerirsi dei pezzi mantenendo sempre un certo livello di complessità... il basso infine è praticamente un'altra cosa, è tutto pizzicato e se lo devo descrivere con un aggettivo quest'ultimo sarebbe "micidiale" e si ispira più sull'acuto piuttosto che al basso (se proprio volete saperlo l'unico album con un basso così grezzo è "Energetic Disassembly", quello dei Watchtower).
Invece una cosa a suo svantaggio è il numero di canzoni sono ben 12 ....di cui 4 piccoli strumentali quasi senza senso... posso capire un "Samba Briza" o un "See You Again", ma "Fractal Point" e "Desplacement" non le capisco proprio visto che non mi suscitano un bel niente rispetto alle altre 2,....bha!!!!
Poi se andiamo a vedere i tempi sono molto migliorati, passando da un minimo di 44 secondi a un massimo di 5 minuti e mezzo... diciamolo è molto più vario rispetto ai suoi predecessori.
Le canzoni che considero "serie" sono "Animal", "Mineral", "Fire", "Earth" e "Elements"... anche se per la maggior parte di loro non ho per niente valutato la tecnicità o la canzone ma quello che mi suscitava ascoltandola, ovviamente pensando all'elemento corrispondente... infine delle 4 ministrumentali mi gasano parecchio "Samba Briza"(e come non potrebbe...) e "See You Again" che ha una melodia proprio commovente.
Poi se proprio andiamo a vedere la struttura di ogni canzone mi è molto difficile, ma ve ne so individuare un paio:
"Green": ha (molto stranamente)una semplice struttura stro-rit-stro-rit-ass-rit in cui l'assolo occupa tipo i 1/4 della canzone; "Water": ha una struttura stro-rit-stro-ass-stro-rit (abbastanza simmetrica) in cui l'assolo occupa 2/4 della canzone creando tipo un buco nella canzone (proprio come in un lago o in un oceano pieno appunto di acqua, guarda caso); "Air": ha una struttura del tipo iniz-stro-stro-ass-stro-stro-fine abbastanza simmetrica in cui la fine ritorna al tema dell'inizio; "Animal": stro-stro-rit-ass-stro-stro-rit in cui l'assolo è relativamente corto e tra la prima e la seconda strofa al posto del naturale ritornello c'è un pezzo che lo sostituisce; "Mineral": stro-stro-rit-ass-stro-stro-rit in cui tra la prima e la seconda strofa c'è un piccolo assolo che si ripresenta anche nella seconda parte della canzone, poi il ritornello e l'assolo sono completamente legati e infine l'ultimo ritornello si ricollega al tema del ritornello iniziale(o ass vista che si legano)marcando ancora di più l'assolo; "Fire": in-stro-rit-ass-stro-rit-fin in cui il finale coincide con la ritmica del ritornello ma con maggiore ritmica; "Earth": in-str-ass-str-ass-str-ass-str-ass-str-ass-stro-ass-fin in cui non ci sono ritornelli ma semplici strofe ripetute, inoltre il brano inizia proprio come è terminato; "Elements": str-rit-ass str-rit-ass str-rit-ass in cui c'è una piccola struttura viene ripetuta tre volte, inoltre ad ogni ritornello è affiancato un piccolo assolo (che a me piace tanto);
(per fare sta cosa ho dovuto risentire ogni brano molto lentamente)
se proprio devo stilare una classifica:
1-"Mineral"
2-"Fire"
3-"Elements"
4-"Earth"
5-"Animal"
6-"Air"
7-"Water"
8-"Green"

n conclusione a quest'album gli do un 7 (come vi ho già detto) non tanto per tutti gli assoli o le ritmiche (ansi... se fosse per quello si sarebbe preso un voto tipo 6+) ma per ben altri motivi (di natura filosofica) che girano intorno a questi benedetti elementi.
Infatti anche se non si leggono i testi dei brani è abbastanza facile dedurre di cosa trattano... ELEMENTI!!!
Ossia:
-"verde"
-"acqua"
-"aria"
-"animale"
-"minerale"
-"fuoco"
-"terra"
(poi c'è "Element" che secondo me è una specie di morale della favola).
Infatti sono stato molto colpito e interessato da questi benedetti elementi... ma mi sorgono parecchi dubbi:
-in anzitutto non sono tutti veri elementi, infatti ci sono "verde" e "animale" che non c'è li vedo abbastanza bene... ma non c'è problema... infatti sono (per me)elementi un po' più astratti in cui il "verde" sta per la "natura" e l'"animale" sta appunto per forza "animale".
-poi c'e anche "terra" che non ho ben capito.. prima di tutto mi sorgeva il dubbio al perché inserire un "terra" se c'è già "mineral" che in parte la racchiude... infatti alla fine sono arrivato alla conclusione che "terra" intendesse dire al pianeta "terra"(confermato sul dizionario: "earth" significa sia "terra" che "pianeta terra". per quest'ultimo in inglese si dice prevalentemente "world", ma anche "earth" va bene) e non a quella cosa marroncina che zappano i contadini... un fattore che c'è lo fa capire e il sibilo che si sente all'inizio e alla fine della canzone che, io ho interpretato come uno "zoom" al contrario (in pratica un allontanamento) da tutta quella massa di robaccia che si è creata con l'unione di tutti quei elementi ...ma non funziona un gran che perché se vediamo le cose in un punto di vista cronologico la cosa non funziona:
1-si crea la "natura" (alberi,ecc.); Già così non funziona visto che la natura sarebbe morta senza "acqua", "aria" e "minerale"; Allora ho provato a vedere le cose all'opposto partendo da "terra" e arrivando a "verde":
1-si crea il "fuoco"; ma già qui mi posso bloccare visto che il "fuoco" non può esistere senza l'"aria".
E a questo punto mi sono fermato pensando che mi stavo facendo troppe pippe mentali...
Invece recentemente mi è caduta in testa un'altra teoria... senza tener conto all'ordine cronologico ho provato un po' a raggrupparli: visto che "elementi" e "terra" son esclusi (perché vengono dopo l'unione di tutti gli elementi) ho provato a raggruppare questi benedetti elementi: visto che gli unici elementi astratti erano "verde" e "animale" e considerando che a ciascuno di questo elemento si susseguono altri due elementi, ho visto l'intera faccenda in questo modo: primo gruppo: "natura" con i suoi sottogruppi "acqua" e "aria"; secondo gruppo: "animale" con i suoi sottogruppi "minerale" e "fuoco"; se la vedi in questo modo le cose quadrano abbastanza....infatti la "natura" io me la immagino come una forza pacifica e silenziosa come appunto i suoi sub-elementi, mentre l'"anilame" io me la immagino come una forza bruta e primordiale come anche in questo caso come i suoi sub-elementi, e non solo... andiamo a confrontare i sub elementi di ogni gruppo si ha una simmetria curiosa:
acqua fuoco
aria minerale
Praticamente il sub elementi sono completamente opposti: "acqua" contro "fuoco" e "aria" contro "minerale"...
A quel punto mi sono detto "WOW Daniele c'è lai fatta!!!" ma poi mi sono subito accorto che in tutti questi ragionamenti non avevo incluso i semistrumentali e che quindi nel primo gruppo l'"ARIA" veniva divisa...peccato, ma penso che in fondo non si cela nessun segreto dietro questi "elementi"...
Comunque vi posso dire che le canzoni serie sono appunto quelle in cui riesco a vedere perfettamente l'elemento:
in "Air" lo si capisce dalla chitarra all'inizio e dalla voce quando si scatena;
in "Mineral" lo si capisce perfettamente dalla ritmica che fa sotto alla strofa: tutta grattata a zigzag;
ad "Animal" si capisce dalla rullata di tamburi all'inizio a dal tenebroso ritornello... ritornello davvero animale;
"Earth" come vi ho già detto lo immagino come il pianeta terra e che quindi i due fischi iniziali e finali siano un avvicinarsi o un allontanarsi dalla terra;
In" Fire" (soprattutto perché è quella che mi eccita di più ad ascoltarla) lo si capisce da quasi l'80% della canzone,è difficile da spiegare, ma basta ascoltarla immaginandosi questa fiamma primordiale in un nulla;
Non so se ci avete fatto caso, ma ogni album degli atheist iniziano tutti col basso
E ad ogni finale ci fanno qualcosa di diverso
In "Pice Of Time" un bel "No Truth" sospirato a mezza voce seguito da un irrefrenabile ultimo raund
In "Unquestinable Presence" finisce con un lussuoso "GOOONG" alla giapponese
E in "Elements" con un fade-out che poi riprenderanno la maggior parte degli album "thecncal death metal" come "Focus", "ITP", "Symbolic" e "The Sound Of Persevarance"...
Concludendo "Elements" me piaciuto parecchio... perché in sostanza gli album migliori sono quelli che ti fanno pensare o fare pippe mentali come è successo a me...
Scusate per la pesantezza ma stò ragionamento l'avrei scritto prima o poi.
Forse un po' troppo lunga ma che me freca tanto il max è 1800... so' arrivato a malapena a 1520.
