Pere Ubu sono un gruppo post‑punk/experimental di Cleveland fondato nel 1975 da David Thomas e Peter Laughner. Dopo i singoli su Hearpen (“30 Seconds Over Tokyo”, “Final Solution”), pubblicano album seminali come The Modern Dance e Dub Housing, che definiscono un’estetica ‘avant‑garage’ tra art‑punk, musique concrète e alienazione urbana. Sciolti nel 1982, rinascono nel 1987 e aprono una fase più accessibile con The Tenement Year e Cloudland, mantenendo l’approccio visionario guidato da Thomas.
