Questa volta Keith Moon andò proprio fuori tempo, dicendo che la nuova band formata da Jimmy Page sarebbe andata giù come un dirigibile di piombo!! Infatti nel 1969 quando uscì il secondo capitolo del dirigibile, il mondo andò in caos, perché stava per conoscere il figlio del blues cioè l'HARD ROCK. Led Zeppelin II, nasce in un periodo storico per il mondo della musica; uscirono istituzioni discografiche come:Abbey Road dei Beatles, Let It Bleed degli Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, Velvet Underground, In The Court Of The Crimson King, Hot Rats di Frank Zappa, Green River dei CCR. L'album si apre in maniera sconvolgente, con brani mai portati all'ennesima potenza granitica: fino ad allora ogni band aveva creato dei riff, ma mai cosi coinvolgenti. Vi siete mai chiesti che cosa avrebbe dovuto fare un qualunque bassista nel dirigibile?? Armonicamente parlando, nelle canzoni dei Led Zeppelin il basso é costretto, a stare alle calcagna del riff, in bilico fra genialità e banalità, creando un momento di tensione fino all'esplosione finale degli assoli, modellando tessiture ritmiche da alta scuola, che solo uno come JPJ era capace di concepire, e ideando spunti per improvvisare. In The Lemon Song, quello che si é detto si materializza sulla (purtroppo o forse no) plagiata composizione di Howlin Wolf, Killing Floor. Ad aprire le danze é Whole Lotta Love, un brano che é entrato a far parte della lista dei riff più belli della storia del rock come: Smoke On the Water, Sunshine Of Your Love, Aqualung, Satisfaction, You really Got Me. Il brano é una rielaborazione di You Need Love di Willie Dixon, il pezzo presenta un complesso intermezzo strumentale, nel quale fa capolino un theremin, nave ammiraglia di un'autentica cacofonia orgiastica. Plant canta d'amore, ma di un amore lontano parsec e parsec dal blaterare degli ormai sepolti figli dei fiori, sostenendo la seguente tesi: "Perché devo parlare di cuori infranti,quando tutto nasce dal bassoventre?". Heartbreaker, é il quinto brano in cui quella confusa creatura ruggente, fuoriuscita dalla Gibson Les Paul Standard e perfezionata in seguito da Eddy Van Halen, entra a far parte nelle nuove abilità di ogni chitarrista rock. "E' l'orribile filo di una stoffa intessuta di cavi e gomene.Attraversato da un vento polare, sorvolato da uccelli rapaci." Queste tetre parole di Herman Melville, bastano da sole per definire quel poema sinfonico per percussioni che porta il nome della Balena Bianca. Il dirigibile ancora una volta ha portato con sè tante leggende,come quella che i soldati americani prima di andare a bombardare i villaggi vietnamiti, ascoltassero sempre Whole Lotta Love facendosi una solenne masturbazione per riprendere energia.

Questo disco sancisce l'inizio dell'hard rock, e sicuramente questo disco sarà il più hard rock della carriera dei Led Zeppelin.
Un classico. E scusate se è poco.

Led Zeppelin II avrebbe contenuto l'inno simbolo della generazione hippie: 'Whole Lotta Love'.
Questo CD, come prodotto discografico, merita 5 perché ha saputo riconfermare lo stratosferico successo del primo CD.
