Questa è la mia seconda recensione su un album degli U2, dopo All That You Can't Leave Behind. Cercherò questa volta di essere più breve senza sbavature.
E' un album che ha venduto quasi 5 milioni di copie, poche per un album degli U2 a causa della scelta dei singoli che non si sono dimostrati delle vere hit. Attenzione, questo è un bene, perchè a differenze dei tre album precedenti in studio non ci sono "brani di serie A" e "brani di serie B". Se un album vende poco, non vuol dire che è stato un pessimo lavoro. Spesso critica e pubblico hanno considerazioni diverse su film, su CD e sui libri. Tornando all'album, No Line On The Horizon si presenta come un disco fluido.....dal suono omogeneo, dove le canzoni sembrano essere collegate tra loro. Un concept album? No, nelle loro intenzioni. No, nel prodotto finale. Forse nell'interpretazione. C'è un The Edge, fresco dal documentario "It Might Get Loud" con Jimmy Page e Jack White. Infatti il loro spirito sembra essere presente in brani come "Moment Of Surrender", "Unknow Caller", "Stand Up Comedy" e "Breath". Io, personalmente, preferisco la versione della title track presente nel singolo "Get On Your Boots" (chiamata No Line On The Horizon 2) rispetto a quella presente nel cd, perchè è più sporca meno curata e più genuina. Poi mi sarebbe piaciuto trovare "Mercy", che scartata da How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb ancora non ha trovato una collocazione negli album (si può ascoltare su You Tube o nei concerti del 2010-2011). Avrebbe meritato molto più che essere un gioiello perduto. E che dire di "Every Breaking Wave" che poteva essere inserita già in questo disco, e che nella sua forma embrionale è stata suonata nei concerti del 2010? Stesso discorso per "Flowering Rose Of Glastonbury" che è poi diventata, in peggio, "Volcano" in Songs Of Innocence. E' un album dai ritmi e melodie orientaleggianti, in quanto parte di esso è stato registrato a Fez, in Marocco (come la canzone "Fez-Being Born" che richiama, in parte, il periodo sperimentale di "Lemon" e "Mofo"). E' il primo album degli U2 dove Brian Eno e Daniel Lanois, oltre ad essere produttori vengono citati come co-autori delle canzoni e dei testi. Peccato che "Get On Your Boots", sia stata con tutte quelle sovraincisioni, ma giustizia è stata fatta durante il tour "U2 360°". Poi c'è "White As Snow" che registra la migliore esecuzione vocale di Bono dal 2000 ad oggi. E' la mia canzone preferita dell'album, sebbene non sia mai stata suonata durante il tour. E' un brano che affonda le sue radici nel canto natalizio cattolico "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel". Al pari di "October" è un album incompreso da chi segue solo commercialmente gli U2, ma non dai veri fans. Voto "7".

Il disco c’è e la sufficienza è meritata.
Le sperimentazioni e alcune trovate di Eno sono riuscite e la band è in forma.

Il Fuoco Indimenticabile non si è ancora spento ... è ritornato ad ardere maestoso come da anni ormai non accadeva.
Unica nota stonata il primo singolo, 'Get On Your Boots', che non riflette la qualità e l’atmosfera del resto del disco.

Un album di Gran Mestiere e di leccamento di suoni, ma senza quei particolari picchi di genialità o energia.
Mai titolo è stato azzeccato, che tradotto sommariamente suona come: 'Niente di nuovo all’orizzonte'.

Probabilmente siamo di fronte al miglior materiale di studio della band dai tempi di 'Pop'.
Il pezzo 'Fez - Being Born' è una perla con sound studiato alla perfezione e melodia sapientemente plasmata sulla vocalità di un Bono ovviamente non più ventenne.
Di primiballi
Perché, volenti o nolenti, la musica degli U2 ormai è musica classica.
Un disco di specchiata onestà, tutto con uno standard alto pur senza vette di assoluta perfezione.
