Un capolavoro. Ambientato al confine, un gruppo di banditi si nasconde nei boschi dai bounty killer che si aggirano spietati e senza scrupoli nella regione. Tra questi il più terribile di tutti è Tigrero (Klaus Kinski). Il buono invece è un pistolero muto interpretrato da Jean-Louis Trintignant. Nel cast c'è anche Frank Wolff e il grande Mario Brega. Fu molto criticato a suo tempo perché è forse l'unico grande film del genere dove a vincere è il cattivo.
